Wiferion launches compact wireless charging system for small mobile robots

May 20, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Wiferion, an energy solution supplier powering mobile robots and autonomous industrial vehicles through wireless charging, introduced its new inductive etaLINK 1000 charging system to the US market, making its successful wireless charging technology available to smaller robots for the first time.

The new mobile charging unit integrated into the robot measures just 160 mm – making it 36 percent smaller than the etaLINK 3000, Wiferion’s standard charging system for autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and autonomous guided vehicles (AGV).

etaLINK 1000 has all the advantages of the larger models, such as high positioning tolerance, maintenance-free operation, and fast start up of power transfer in around one second. Wiferion will debut the etaLINK 1000 at Automate, May 22-25, 2023, in Detroit. [Read more…] about Wiferion launches compact wireless charging system for small mobile robots

Factory Visit: Investment bankers tour client’s robot-filled machine shop

March 24, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Investment and automation specialists John Slater and Jorge Maceyras, of Focus Investment Banking, make a factory visit to a client of theirs, and find that robotics is integral to the operation.

Do you have any robots?

When we posed that somewhat naïve question to the CEO of an extreme high precision machine shop in 2014, we got the response we deserved.

“Look up on the landing.”

There, we saw a hulking industrial robot our client had acquired years before to satisfy his auto industry customer that had a factory full of such behemoths. The unwieldy, difficult to program, creature had no role in the high mix low volume shop and had long been consigned to serve as the firm’s robot museum. What is manufacturing software, and how can it help a small business?

January 3, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Manufacturing software is a type of software that assists small companies in streamlining their manufacturing processes and improving operational efficiency. In particular, cloud-based solutions offer fast deployment, allowing businesses to implement their software without waiting for physical installation.

Additionally, online solutions provide improved scalability and flexibility, meaning businesses can quickly add or remove functionality as their needs evolve.

This is an essential feature from the perspective of a small company: the intention is always to grow and expand, but only a few business owners can afford expensive investments at the start, as they usually stretch their budgets without having spent on manufacturing software tools. The scalability of online solutions is a great advantage. [Read more…] about What is manufacturing software, and how can it help a small business?

How Robotics Can Help Manufacturers Solve Labor Shortages

December 8, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Manufacturing is critical to the United States and the Midwest. It’s responsible for creating jobs, supporting businesses, and generating economic growth. Manufacturing is also a key driver of innovation, helping to create new products and technologies that can improve our lives.

Nationwide, manufacturing was the fourth-largest employment sector in 2021, with more than 12 million employees. In the Midwest, it’s the largest employment sector. But like many other industries, manufacturers are facing a major challenge – a shortage of skilled workers.

Even if every skilled worker in the country was employed in manufacturing, Forbes reports there would still be 35 percent more job openings than workers capable of filling them. By 2030, Deloitte predicts the industry will be short by more than 2 million workers. [Read more…] about How Robotics Can Help Manufacturers Solve Labor Shortages
