Starship Technologies launches robot delivery service at North Carolina university

Starship Technologies, the world’s leading provider of autonomous delivery services, announced today that its robots have started on-demand food deliveries at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte).

Starship’s fleet of 30 autonomous, on-demand robots are now delivering from Wendy’s, Bojangles and Shake Smart and will add more campus eateries throughout March, with 10 onboard by the end of the month.

The school’s nearly 30,000 students and faculty can now use the Starship Food Delivery app (iOS and Android) to order food and drinks from campus retailers to be delivered anywhere on campus, within minutes. Kiwibot secures $10 million in new funding

Kiwibot, a robotic last-mile delivery service that has completed over 250,000 food deliveries with robots, has agreed what it describes as a “tailor-made” $10 million financing partnership with asset financing group kineo finance.

The agreement will help Kiwibot with its manufacturing and scaling needs, growing its robotic fleet and disrupting the delivery-as-a-service (DaaS) industry.

By removing the working capital barrier, this partnership will accelerate Kiwibot’s growth in the DaaS industry. kineo finance provides smart asset financing for startups while limiting dilution, so they can focus on growing the business. AutoStore launches pay-per-pick option to meet ‘fast-growing demand’ for its fulfillment automation

AutoStore has made its warehouse automaton system available as a pay-per-pick service. 

The company says its new offering will “enable a lower entry price point to help retailers meet the growing need for more efficient warehouse operations and faster customer delivery”.

Zoox says its robotaxi is ‘first in the world to operate on public roads’

Autonomous mobility-as-a-service company, Zoox, has completed what it describes as “a key milestone” – deploying “the world’s first purpose-built robotaxi on open public roads with passengers”.

On February 11, 2023, Zoox conducted the first run of its employee shuttle service in Foster City, California, marking “the first time in history” a purpose-built autonomous robotaxi without traditional driving controls carried passengers on open public roads.

Residents in the United Arab Emirates may soon receive parcels delivered by drones and robots

Aramex, a global provider of logistics and transportation solutions, says it has completed the testing of its drone and roadside robot deliveries in Dubai, one of the seven emirates in the UAE.

This is part of the company’s “Future Delivery Program” aimed at enhancing last-mile logistics using smart shipping solutions to enable quicker, more sustainable, and cost-effective deliveries.

The initial tests were conducted at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in partnership with BARQ EV, a leading commercial drone delivery service provider in the UAE, and Kiwibot, a Colombia-based company specializing in delivery robotics. Bear Robotics is launching Servi, which it describes as “an innovative new robot set to revolutionise the food service industry”.

Servi is designed to help hospitality and care home businesses, assisting staff by utilizing AI and autonomous robot technology to serve drinks and food and clear tables.

Rotary partners with TEXA to offer new ADAS solutions

Rotary, part of Vehicle Service Group (VSG) and Dover, has agreed a partnership with TEXA, a company involved in the design, development and production of diagnostic tools for the vehicle repair industry.

The companies say the partnership will enable Rotary to expand its automotive service offerings.

Hyundai launches delivery robot pilot programs

Hyundai Motor Group has started two pilot delivery service programs using autonomous robots based on its “Plug & Drive” (PnD) modular platform at a hotel and a residential-commercial complex located in the outskirts of Seoul.

The delivery robot consists of a storage unit integrated on top of a PnD driving unit. Alongside the loading box used to deliver items, a connected screen displays information for customers.

First shown at CES 2022, Hyundai’s PnD modular platform is an all-in-one single wheel unit that combines intelligent steering, braking, in-wheel electric drive and suspension hardware, including a steering actuator for 360-degree, holonomic rotation. Starship expands robotic delivery to more college campuses with Grubhub

Starship Technologies, a provider of delivery robots, and Grubhub, a food ordering and delivery marketplace, are expanding delivery service to Baylor University and East Carolina University (ECU).

As of yesterday, students, faculty and staff can get autonomous, on-demand deliveries through the Grubhub app (iOS and Android).

Baylor’s 20,000 students can order from more than seven eateries on campus. SICK introduces the first 3D time-of-flight (ToF) camera with Performance Level c (PL c) on the market – the safeVisionary2.

It was developed to support customers in becoming fully autonomous in addition to providing 3D localization and object recognition.
