Deloitte report says ‘physical AI’ era has begun as intelligent robots reshape industry

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

Deloitte has published a new report arguing that the world is entering the era of “physical AI” – intelligent robots capable of perceiving, reasoning, and acting in the physical world – and says the technology is set to reshape manufacturing, construction, logistics, and other industrial sectors.

The report, How robotics and physical AI are reshaping industries and society, describes a “pivotal moment” driven by three converging forces: rapid advances in AI models, falling hardware costs, and deepening labour shortages.

Deloitte says physical AI systems represent the next step beyond traditional automation, enabling machines to “autonomously interact with, interpret, and make decisions within physical environments, often in real time and with real-world feedback loops”. Construction sector looks to humanoid robots as labour shortages intensify, says McKinsey

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

The global construction industry is accelerating efforts to adopt humanoid robots as it grapples with a persistent productivity slump and ongoing labour shortages, according to a new report from McKinsey & Company.

In a note emailed to Robotics & Automation News, a spokesperson for McKinsey highlighted the pressure facing the sector.

“Stuck in a cycle of meager productivity growth rates – which stood at only 0.4 percent from 2000-2022 – and with talent pools continuing to thin, it isn’t surprising to see that the construction industry is struggling to keep up with demand and is leaving no stone unturned in hopes of innovation – including humanoid robots.” [Read more…] about Construction sector looks to humanoid robots as labour shortages intensify, says McKinsey

Hypershell earns first SGS performance mark for outdoor powered exoskeleton

November 4, 2025 by Sam Francis

SGS, one of the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification companies, has broken new ground with the award of its first SGS Premium Performance Mark for an outdoor powered exoskeleton.

The certification was awarded to Hypershell for its Hypershell X Series, the world’s first outdoor powered exoskeleton integrating robotics, ergonomics and an AI-powered assistance system. The SGS Premium Performance Mark verifies that the product:

  • Increases athletic performance
  • Reduces muscle load
  • Decreases average oxygen consumption by up to 39.2 percent
  • Decreases average heart rate by up to 42.7 percent

To provide crucial reference standards for the future standardization of outdoor exoskeletons in the emerging consumer electronics sector, SGS established a robust testing specification and evaluation system in collaboration with the China National Institute of Standardization. China’s production of industrial robotic arms hits record high, according to ‘latest official data’

November 4, 2025 by Sam Francis

Robot makers in China have supplied 595,000 industrial robotic arms to the market in the first nine months of this year, according to the South China Morning Post.

While the original source for this precise figure is not specified in available reports, it aligns with a broader trend of explosive growth documented by “latest official data” (as SCMP describes it), which shows production for the first half of 2025 reached 369,316 units, a year-on-year increase of 35.6 percent.

This surge in domestic production coincides with a major milestone for China’s automation sector. According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), China now operates more industrial robots than the rest of the world combined, with its stock of in-service robots surpassing 2 million units in 2024.
