10 key considerations when developing your robot’s cloud backend

April 9, 2020 by Sam Francis

If you work in robotics, odds are you’re more interested in robots than data pipelines and cloud architecture.

Unfortunately, the latter are just as much a part of modern robotics as sensors and servo motors. If you hope to successfully develop and scale your robotics operations, you’ll first have to run the gauntlet that is building a cloud-based “backend” – the server side of the network.

Given the inherent complexity of this task, there are plenty of opportunities for oversight. So, before all else, it’s imperative that you and your team take the time to carefully consider and develop a plan of action. Robots and AI playing their part in coronavirus cleanup

April 9, 2020 by Mai Tao

As China finally ends the lockdown it imposed on Wuhan about two-and-a-half months ago, we look at some of the cleanup operations involving robots and artificial intelligence in the country.

UBTech Robotics has been at the forefront of robotic and AI implementations fighting Covid-19 away from of hospitals. Below are some examples.

Back to school

At the school gates of two major middle schools – Kunming Number 3 Middle School and Kunming Dianchi Middle School – in Yunnan province, southwest of China, students returning from prolonged absence for Covid-19 fear are now greeted by a robot instead of a human. Robots, robotics and the disabled population

March 23, 2020 by Polly

Despite it being 2020, there’s a section of the population that’s often overlooked or misrepresented – the disabled population.

A section that encompasses a wide range of disabilities, many individuals fall under this umbrella. However, many are overlooked or misunderstood, you only have to look at the TV to see how disabled people are being shut out.

Due to this, navigating day-to-day life for many disabled individuals can be difficult.

However, with the advancements in technology over the decades, with everything from wheelchair accessible vehicles at places like Allied Mobility, to the advancements in prosthetics and education, things are improving.

And, this could improve further with the help of robots and robotics. [Read more…] about Robots, robotics and the disabled population

Smart 5G patrol robots equipped with Advantech’s edge computer employed to fight coronavirus

March 17, 2020 by Mai Tao

As part of its effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19, China is using 5G patrol robots developed by Guangzhou Gosuncn Robot, using Advantech technology to monitor mask wearing and body temperatures in public places.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the Guangzhou Gosuncn Robot, a leading provider of smart city internet of things products and services, upgraded its 5G-powered police patrol robot with new capabilities to assist first-line police officers in conducting disease prevention inspections.

Because the manual measurement of body temperature exposes public safety personnel to potential health risks, these robots are equipped with 5 high-resolution cameras and infrared thermometers capable of scanning the temperature of 10 people simultaneously within a radius of 5 meters.
