Ericsson, TIM and Comau test the ‘factory of the future’

June 17, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Ericsson, TIM and Comau say they are testing the “factory of the future” through something called “5G network slicing”.

The three companies have joined forces to develop, on an experimental basis, innovative solutions for Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing by leveraging the potential of the 5G network. This initiative is part of the EU-funded 5Growth project.

Thanks to TIM and Ericsson’s deployment of a 5G network at Comau’s headquarters in Turin (Italy), three new applications have been launched to demonstrate the advantages of the new technology, and in particular those arising from the slicing functionality of the network, within an industrial environment. Embark and US Xpress partner to build nationwide terminal network for autonomous trucks

May 8, 2022 by David Edwards

Embark Trucks, a developer of autonomous technology for the trucking industry, says US Xpress has joined the Embark Partner Development Program and plans to add its terminals to the Embark Coverage Map.

This partnership marks a significant milestone by adding a fleet’s properties into an autonomous truck developer’s transfer point network.

Embark pioneered the transfer point model in 2019 when the company unveiled its first sites in Los Angeles and Phoenix. Transfer points are used to move freight from driverless, long-haul trucks to driver-enabled trucks for first- and last-mile delivery. How manufacturers can go wireless to unleash unlimited possibilities

March 30, 2022 by David Edwards

By Oliver Wang, product marketing manager, edge connectivity and computing, Moxa

Where it’s difficult to hardwire industrial operations to ensure time to market, industrial wireless LANs (WLANs) provide an ideal alternative to traditional wired Ethernet LANs.

Indeed, recent advances in wireless technology have contributed to industrial WLANs becoming commonplace solutions in automotive plants, warehouses, and transportation systems, among others, where automated equipment is required that is constantly moving or difficult to wire.

Industrial WLANs enable these types of systems to be connected for enhanced operational efficiency. [Read more…] about How manufacturers can go wireless to unleash unlimited possibilities

Ethereum co-founder wants a more varied fee structure

February 18, 2022 by David Edwards

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain, talked about gas fees and how to reduce them. Buterin informed the public about the possibility of the latest system having the ability to balance the issues people have with the current state of the gas charges that ETH buyers constantly complain about.

Ethereum fees have been a burning topic of discussion recently. It first boomed in 2021 with people complaining about the immensely high gas fees when Ethereum gas costs were at their acme.

Since then, it has reduced, but the fee is still pretty high on several trading websites like redot.com/eth2 and this remains a quandary for Buterin to solve. On a blog, Buterin did talk about gas fee reduction as well as scalability. [Read more…] about Ethereum co-founder wants a more varied fee structure
