UBTech robots being used to control coronavirus in Wuhan

UBTech is supplying its robotics and artificial intelligence technologies in the ongoing effort to control coronavirus in China. 

The AI robots have been installed in healthcare settings as well as commercial environment as people get back to work.

Otto Motors expands its autonomous mobile robots business to Japan

Otto Motors, the industrial division of Clearpath Robotics, is expanding into the Japanese market.

The move marks Ontario-based Otto’s first expansion outside North America.

Omron developing robotic suitcase with AI to assist visually impaired people

Omron has joined a consortium which is developing a robotic suitcase with artificial intelligence to assist visually impaired people.

As well as Omron, the consortium includes companies such as IBM Japan, Mitsubishi Motors, and Shimizu Corporation.

The AI suitcase is described as an integrated solution that will help the visually impaired to get around town independently, by supplementing visual information by combining the latest AI with robotics. Nike integrates robots from Geek+ into its Japan warehouse

Nike, the world’s largest sportswear company, has integrated robots from Geek+ into its Japan warehouse. (See video below.)

Geek+, a provider of smart logistics solutions, has powered same-day delivery for Nike in Japan, providing advanced robotics solutions to Nike’s new distribution center in Chiba.

Okamura to integrate RightHand Robotics’ piece-picking solution in its warehouses

Okamura is to integrate solutions from RightHand Robotics into its warehouses to further automate operations. 

RHR’s autonomous piece-picking solution, RightPick2, will be integrated with Okamura’s logistics solutions, such as AutoStore, beginning this month.

South Korea reaches new record of 300,000 industrial robots in operation

South Korea has doubled the number of industrial robots over the past five years to reach a new record of 300,000 industrial robots in operation.

This is according to figures in the World Robotics report, released by the International Federation of Robotics.

The data shows a new record stock of about 300,000 operational industrial robots in the Republic of Korea – more commonly known as South Korea – in 2018, which is an increase of about 10 percent on the previous year. Plus Automation wins its first robotics-as-a-service contract

Logistics and supply chain technology startup Plus Automation has won its first robotics-as-a-service contract with Jun Co, a Japanese company with diversified interests including fashion, food and fitness products. 

The company was jointly established in June 2019 and is 60 per cent owned by Mitsui, a Japanese conglomerate, and GLP Japan, said to be the largest Japanese logistics company but also has real estate and other interests.

GROUND unveils new autonomous mobile robot for warehouses

GROUND has unveiled a new autonomous collaborative robot that will start selling in Japan at the end of 2019.

The autonomous mobile robot was exhibited at the Daiwa House Group booth at the “1st Kansai Logistics Exhibition” held at INTEX Osaka recently.

Panasonic introduces autonomous ride share service around its Japan HQ

Panasonic has launched autonomous ride share service around its headquarters, which cover an area of approximately 468,000 sq meters and has about 14,000 staff. (See video below.)

The company says that, as autonomous driving evolves and interest in mobility as a service grows, there are “increasing expectations” for their adoption in towns and communities.

MHI produces first shipment of new Pratt & Whitney engines

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines (MHIAEL) has completed its assembly and first shipment of a Pratt & Whitney GTFTM PW1200G engine at the MHIAEL facility in Komaki, Japan.

The engine was shipped on November 13 to Mitsubishi Aircraft’s Moses Lake Flight Test Center in Moses Lake, Washington.
