Why Are Quarterly Taxes Required for Freelancers?

May 23, 2023 by David Edwards

calculator pen accounts

For self-employed individuals and independent contractors, tax season may be challenging. You need to gather paperwork and documentation, and you need to decide when you will return (or hire a professional to help work with you). On occasion, even writing a big check to the IRS is necessary. For independent contractors, tax season occurs four times annually, which is too often to handle just once.

Depending on the kind of work you perform or how you get paid, you could need to pay your taxes through expected quarterly taxes. If you require help with tax calculation, you can immediately prepare your taxes using a 1099 tax calculator or a quarterly tax calculator.

In the United States, taxes are paid on a pay-as-you-go basis as income is earned. Freelancers are in charge of managing their own tax responsibilities using anticipated quarterly tax payments. [Read more…] about Why Are Quarterly Taxes Required for Freelancers?

German citizens to be given €1,200 a month for doing nothing

August 20, 2020 by David Edwards

German citizens are to be given €1,200 a month, or about $1,400, for doing nothing in an experiment to evaluate the effects of a concept called “universal basic income”.

Universal Basic Income, or UBI, is an idea that has been around for many years, and has many supporters and advocacy groups around the world, but was never really taken seriously in the past.

The notion of the government giving everyone in society a fixed regular amount of money whether they work or not sounds like a communist plot to take over the world. [Read more…] about German citizens to be given €1,200 a month for doing nothing

Support for Universal Basic Income growing as economies look to recover from coronavirus devastation

May 26, 2020 by Sam Francis

A couple of years ago, RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com published a story about Finland introducing a “Universal Basic Income” for a small number of its citizens as an experiment.

The Finnish government’s idea was that it would study the possibility of using UBI as a way to offset the unemployment caused by automation.

Although it was well worth reporting, we were somewhat flippant about UBI, suggesting it was a communist idea that would never take off. Finland, of course, was within the sphere of influence of the old Communist or Eastern Bloc, and the now-gone USSR. What are the benefits of machine learning in business?

August 27, 2019 by David Edwards

Machine learning makes our lives so much easier every day. Work that used to take people several hours or even days now can be completed in a blink of an eye by artificial intelligence program.

Due to that, we have less work to do and more spare time.

Also, there are no “human” mistakes involved in the process. [Read more…] about What are the benefits of machine learning in business?

Finland to give citizens universal basic income because of robot invasion

January 4, 2017 by Mark Allinson

Finland is in danger of developing a reputation either as a nation of visionary ideas or one full of utopian communists.

Not many years ago, the country’s leaders declared superfast access to the internet a human right – which is fair enough.

Now it’s giving away free money to a couple of thousand of its citizens in anticipation of robots taking over their jobs and making them redundant.  [Read more…] about Finland to give citizens universal basic income because of robot invasion
