11 Expectations in the Development of AI Transcription

July 21, 2022 by David Edwards

Does the name Audrey Hepburn ring a bell?

Way back in 1952, it was the first computer speech recognition tool. Even though the technology was groundbreaking, the software could understand only digits.

Since then, transcription software has come a long way.

Today, transcription tools use immersive technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to convert speech to text. Transcription tools can automatically record a conversation and convert that into text within a few minutes. [Read more…] about 11 Expectations in the Development of AI Transcription

Kodiak Robotics demonstrates new safety technology for autonomous trucks

May 13, 2022 by David Edwards

Kodiak Robotics, a self-driving trucking company, says it has become the first company to publicly demonstrate a “fallback” system, which can autonomously pull a self-driving truck over to the side of the road in the event of a truck or system failure. (See video below.)

The ability to perform a safe, reliable fallback, otherwise known as having the vehicle assume a minimal risk condition, is critical to safely deploying driverless trucks on public roads.

Don Burnette, founder and CEO, Kodiak, says: “To launch an autonomous vehicle without a human driver, you must ensure the vehicle will protect motorists in the case of a truck or autonomous system failure. [Read more…] about Kodiak Robotics demonstrates new safety technology for autonomous trucks

Robotic Desk in Your Home

March 23, 2022 by David Edwards

Modern living conditions have turned tables into a kind of high-tech device, literally stuffed with electronics, and has several useful functions. Thanks to modern technologies, such tables provide maximum convenience while working at it.

But not only built-in gadgets are important here, pay attention that your new piece of furniture has an adjustable desk base. If you purchase just such a table, then you will close the issue for a long time, if not forever, of course. [Read more…] about Robotic Desk in Your Home

Purdue scientists build a chip that makes connections like a human brain

February 18, 2022 by David Edwards

An electronic chip that can be reprogrammed on demand may enable artificial intelligence to learn more continuously like the human brain does, researchers have discovered.

When the human brain learns something new, it adapts. But when artificial intelligence learns something new, it tends to forget information it already learned.

As companies use more and more data to improve how AI recognizes images, learns languages and carries out other complex tasks, a paper published in Science this week shows a way that computer chips could dynamically rewire themselves to take in new data like the brain does, helping AI to keep learning over time. Swiss university shows brain-computer interface for controlling robots

February 2, 2022 by David Edwards

A Swiss university called the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne has showcased a new brain-computer interface that can be used to control robots. (See video below.)

Unlike previous BCI’s famously demonstrated to former US president, Barack Obama, the EPFL brain-computer interface does not require a hole to be drilled in the user’s head.

Two EPFL research groups teamed up to develop a machine-learning program that can be connected to a human brain and used to command a robot. [Read more…] about Swiss university shows brain-computer interface for controlling robots

2022 Healthtech Forecast: Record-Breaking Technology Expansion

January 12, 2022 by David Edwards

Artificial intelligence (AI) research has become one of the most active areas in computer science, with an expectation that AI will help to solve many problems in healthcare.

The use of AI technology in healthcare is poised to dramatically improve medicine over the next few years as researchers find new ways to integrate it into patient care and clinical operations.

In 2021, WHO issued its first report on Artificial Intelligence in health. The report is the result of 2 years of consultations held by a panel of experts. [Read more…] about 2022 Healthtech Forecast: Record-Breaking Technology Expansion

Eavesdropping on our thoughts helps create robots like us

December 30, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Can intelligence be taught to robots? Advances in physical reservoir computing, a technology that makes sense of brain signals, could contribute to creating artificial intelligence machines that think like us.

In Applied Physics Letters, from AIP Publishing, researchers from the University of Tokyo outline how a robot could be taught to navigate through a maze by electrically stimulating a culture of brain nerve cells connected to the machine.

These nerve cells, or neurons, were grown from living cells and acted as the physical reservoir for the computer to construct coherent signals. [Read more…] about Eavesdropping on our thoughts helps create robots like us

11 Ways that Businesses Can Increase their Security

November 12, 2021 by Mark Allinson

The Internet can be a dangerous place. It’s true that many of the people who are online are good, honest citizens who mean no harm to anyone else.

There are some bad apples, however. There are criminals out there who want to do people harm through both physical and virtual means.

Everyone has all heard about viruses that silently attack computers without the owner’s knowledge or permission, about identity theft that costs innocent victims dearly, and about hackers intent on breaching any system they can find for reasons of curiosity or profit. Symbio Robotics unveils software update to ‘further modernize manufacturing assembly’

October 27, 2021 by Mark Allinson

Symbio Robotics, the provider of a platform that enables AI-powered automation solutions, launched SymbioDCS 2.0, which the company describes as “a major update” to the company’s flagship middleware and python programming framework.

With a streamlined automation solution development and deployment process, the updated platform contains a series of breakthrough features to support accelerated electric vehicle timelines and emissions-reduction goals by automakers through real-time robot-controlled apps such as insertion, fastening, and moving lines.

Max Reynolds, Symbio CEO and co-founder, says: “The demand for Symbio’s technology continues to increase as mounting pressure on automotive companies to change their factory footprint and increase production of EVs grows. The recent Ford and GM announcements to put billions into EV-focused factories is hard evidence of this. Boston Dynamics releases new software for its canine robot Spot

September 23, 2021 by David Edwards

Boston Dynamics has released new software for its canine robot, Spot, which has sold in relatively large numbers considering its hefty price tag.

The company says the new software – Spot Release 3.0 – adds functionality to make Spot “the data collection solution you need for safer and more efficient inspection rounds”.

Spot’s famous realistic walking ability – the Autowalk system – has logged thousands of miles in industrial facilities and on construction sites around the world. [Read more…] about Boston Dynamics releases new software for its canine robot Spot
