5 Reasons Compressed Air Testing Is Essential in Manufacturing

September 16, 2020 by Polly

There are several reasons why testing is a necessity in manufacturing. It’s essential for safety, security, and quality assurance purposes.

All kinds of businesses are now moving toward automation, affecting how processes are carried out.

Thus, the need for improved performance and reduced downtime makes testing an essential component of the work. [Read more…] about 5 Reasons Compressed Air Testing Is Essential in Manufacturing

San Francisco looks like a scene from Blade Runner

September 10, 2020 by Sam Francis

The original Blade Runner film was regarded as a cinematic classic partly because of its depiction of an eery, dystopic world where the sky is permanently a dark, dusty orangey colour, possibly suggesting acid rain or something slightly toxic in the air because of the dirty and polluting machines and factories down on the ground.

It was a ground-breaking, startling view of the future and was in complete contrast to the vast majority of science fiction films that came and went before it as they mostly showed the future as relatively bright and pollution-free, or at least the colour of the sky wasn’t a consideration as such.

Now, in the real world, modern San Francisco is shrouded in a blanket of cloud that looks quite similar to the world of Blade Runner. The dramatic change has been caused by the “worst wildfires in the history of the state of California”, according to those who are tasked to deal with them. Sudden increase in air pollution threatens economic recovery, says report

September 4, 2020 by David Edwards

There has been a sudden increase in air pollution which is threatening economic recovery in many countries, according to a new report by Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).

The environmental research organization estimates that “health damage from air pollution” has cost between 0.4 percent and 6 percent of annual GDP in the world’s leading cities in the first half of 2020.

By “health damage” CREA means such things as absence from work as a result of respiratory problems such as asthma, a particularly pertinent point at a time when a respiratory disease called coronavirus has ravaged the entire world’s population and caused untold economic damage. US gives Amazon permission to make drone deliveries

September 1, 2020 by David Edwards

The US Federal Aviation Administration has given Amazon permission to make drone deliveries, certifying the company as an “air carrier” – basically like an airline company.

The world’s largest online retailer has been trying to get permits to operate its Amazon Prime Air drones for several years, making test deliveries by drones while it waits.

One sticking point was that the FAA had originally wanted drone operators to maintain human vision on the drone while in the air. [Read more…] about US gives Amazon permission to make drone deliveries

Xwing debuts ‘world’s first fully autonomous air cargo flight’ using classic plane

August 25, 2020 by David Edwards

A startup company called Xwing has completed what it says is the “world’s first fully autonomous air cargo flight” using a classic Cessna plane. (See video below.)

Aerospace experts at the company are working with the FAA to unveil pilotless plane technology for short-distance regional air transportation.

Xwing says it has successfully executed numerous passenger-carrying autonomous take-off to landing flights in a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan. [Read more…] about Xwing debuts ‘world’s first fully autonomous air cargo flight’ using classic plane

Arctic pollution: Air quality monitoring at 40°C below zero

June 12, 2020 by Sam Francis

Most people think of the Arctic as a highly pristine clean environment, but this is not always the case. During the long dark Arctic winter, the urban atmosphere can become extremely polluted.

Indeed, at some point during the year, the remote Alaskan city of Fairbanks turns into the most polluted city in the whole of the US.

This is due to the very cold Arctic winter when emissions of gases and particles (such as from wood-burning stoves, traffic, power stations) can become trapped locally at ground level due to the very stable meteorological conditions, with poor vertical mixing. Considerations in Designing an Effective Air Quality Control Strategy

May 28, 2020 by Polly

The industrial section plays a central role in air quality management following the Clean Air Act (CAA) and its amendments.

Therefore, a re-evaluation of the effectiveness of the strategies must be done before implementing air quality to meet federal, state, and local government agencies’ requirements.

Also, it is crucial to develop further techniques that will allow strengthening the company’s air quality management systems. [Read more…] about Considerations in Designing an Effective Air Quality Control Strategy
