Chicago residents push to pause delivery robot pilot over safety and accessibility concerns

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

More than 800 Chicago residents have signed a petition calling on the city to pause its sidewalk delivery robot pilot, citing safety, accessibility and privacy concerns as more machines begin operating in neighbourhoods such as Lakeview.

The petition, hosted at NoSidewalkBots.org, urges the city to “pause the sidewalk-robot program until CDOT & BACP release safety & ADA findings, evaluate that data and local job impacts in a public hearing, and set clear rules.”

CBS Chicago reported that the robots – operated by Serve Robotics and Coco Robotics – are now a common sight in parts of the North Side. But not every resident is comfortable sharing the pavement with them. [Read more…] about Chicago residents push to pause delivery robot pilot over safety and accessibility concerns

Murata releases its in-house engineering software Femtet after four decades of development

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Murata Manufacturing is making its long-running engineering simulation software available to the wider market, after developing it internally for around 40 years.

The tool, called Femtet, is a computer-aided engineering (CAE) system based on the finite element method (FEM).

It has been used inside Murata for decades to help engineers design and test electronic components by simulating stress, heat, electromagnetic fields, fluids, vibration and other physical behaviours. McKinsey warns AI and robots could automate 40 percent of US jobs by 2030

November 26, 2025 by David Edwards

A new report from the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) suggests that artificial intelligence and robotics could, in theory, automate more than half of all work currently done in the United States – and put around 40 percent of jobs in highly automatable categories – if companies fully redesign their workflows around intelligent machines.

In its study, Agents, robots, and us: Skill partnerships in the age of AI, MGI says that “today’s technologies could theoretically automate more than half of current US work hours”.

The authors stress that this is “not a forecast of job losses” but an indication of how profoundly work could change as “work in the future will be a partnership between people, agents, and robots – all powered by artificial intelligence”. Universal Robots partners with software engineering platform Viam

November 26, 2025 by David Edwards

Universal Robots is powering a new era of marine manufacturing automation through its partnership with Viam, a modern software engineering platform for robotics.

At the center of this collaboration is a robotic block sanding system designed to streamline fiberglass sanding for yacht builders – a task that is traditionally very labor-intensive and physically demanding.

The solution combines UR’s proven UR Series cobots with Viam’s adaptive software to deliver precision, consistency, and efficiency. [Read more…] about Universal Robots partners with software engineering platform Viam

Siasun unveils high-rise exterior wall cleaning robot designed to improve safety and efficiency

November 26, 2025 by David Edwards

Chinese robotics manufacturer Siasun Robot & Automation has developed a high-altitude exterior wall cleaning robot that the company says could significantly reduce the risks associated with manual skyscraper cleaning.

In a statement on its website, Siasun says the system was created “in collaboration with its partners” and is intended to replace traditional methods where workers clean building exteriors while suspended at height.

The company says this practice remains “an extremely high-risk profession”, with operators facing “the life-threatening threat of falls from heights” as well as adverse weather, psychological pressure, and long-term health concerns. Norway close to 100 percent electric car adoption as Europe’s uneven EV transition continues

November 22, 2025 by David Edwards

Europe’s shift toward electric mobility accelerated in 2025, but adoption remains highly uneven across the continent, according to new analysis from TradingPedia.com.

While electric vehicles now account for more than a quarter of all new cars sold in Europe, the gap between early adopters and lagging markets continues to widen.

Norway remains far ahead of every other country, with 96.82 percent of new car registrations now fully electric. The country’s market is so mature that petrol and diesel sales have collapsed sharply, down more than 50 percent and 37 percent respectively so far this year. AI-enabled floor cleaning: How floor scrubbers break through the technological barriers of traditional cleaning

November 22, 2025 by David Edwards

As global cleaning automation accelerates at a CAGR exceeding 25%, the limitations of traditional floor-cleaning machines have become increasingly visible.

Manual and semi-automatic scrubbers lack the perception, intelligence, and adaptability required in modern commercial environments. Transparent liquids remain undetectable, complex terrain disrupts cleaning patterns, and inconsistent human operation causes variable cleaning quality.

Tineco, a pioneer in smart cleaning technology, is redefining the category through advanced AI-powered floor scrubbers engineered for industrial, retail, healthcare, transportation, and large-scale facilities.
