First robot delivery service integrated with student meal plans debuts at George Mason University today

Sodexo, a food services and facilities company, and Starship Technologies, a robotics company, have partnered to launch robot food delivery services at George Mason University’s Fairfax, Virginia campus. (See video below.)

Beginning today, Mason’s 40,000 students, faculty and staff can access the Starship Deliveries app (iOS and Android) to order food and drinks to be delivered anywhere on campus, within minutes.

Blaze Pizza, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ are the first retailers to participate, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. The Healthcare Assistive Robot Market is set to grow from its current market value of more than $359 million to over $1.2 billion by 2024, as reported in the latest study by Global Market Insights.

Increasing incidence of stroke coupled with rising geriatric population worldwide is the key factor that will escalate the demand for healthcare assistive robots during the forecast period.

Fetch Cloud Robotics Platform for On-Demand Automation is deploying Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) systems for material handling and data collection workflows in the USA.

Through the platform, material handling and data collection robots can be up and running in less than one day, and can be migrated from one contract to another due to ease of deployment and ability to perform a variety of tasks.

PerceptIn launches ‘first-ever’ long-range visual perception device enabling high-speed trains to see 1,000 meters ahead

PerceptIn, a developer of robotic vision technologies, has unveiled what it describes as a “thousand-meter visual perception module”.

Specially designed for semi-autonomous high-speed trains, the thousand-meter visual perception module can also be tuned to cover a 300-meter range for universal deployment in industrial and commercial autonomous vehicles such as logistics trucks.

Hahn Group says it is continuing to grow after it recently acquired the intellectual property of Rethink Robotics and with the appointment of Philipp Unterhalt. 

Unterhalt has been appointed managing director of the Hahn Group and interim CEO of Rethink Robotics.
