Exclusive interview: LG’s big bet on smart robotics for the household and beyond

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

LG Electronics, formerly Lucky-Goldstar, is one of South Korea’s largest and most globally recognised engineering powerhouses.

A household name for decades, LG has built a reputation through its expansive portfolio of consumer appliances – from televisions and refrigerators to washing machines and air conditioners.

But behind the scenes, LG is also rapidly becoming a serious force in industrial and service robotics, with ambitions that stretch well beyond your kitchen or laundry room. [Read more…] about Exclusive interview: LG’s big bet on smart robotics for the household and beyond

The Changing Face of the Warehouse: Smarter Machines on Every Aisle

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Warehouses have long been the backbone of supply chains, yet they’re undergoing one of the most profound technological transformations in their history.

From manually driven forklifts and basic inventory racks to interconnected smart ecosystems, modern warehouses are being reimagined with machines that think, communicate, and adapt.

This shift isn’t merely about automation replacing human labor – it’s about enabling unprecedented levels of efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility. [Read more…] about The Changing Face of the Warehouse: Smarter Machines on Every Aisle

The Real Workhorses of Industrial Automation

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Industrial automation is the unsung engine behind modern manufacturing, construction, and production.

While flashy AI headlines and futuristic robotics often steal attention, the real day-to-day productivity gains stem from rugged, proven technologies that quietly perform millions of operations per second across countless industries.

These are the workhorses: steel welding systems, precision cutters, high-speed assembly lines, automated painting rigs, and advanced material handling solutions. [Read more…] about The Real Workhorses of Industrial Automation

Robotic piece-picking: Inside the quest for human-level dexterity

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Exploring the convergence of advanced grippers, 3D vision, and sophisticated AI that is enabling robots to handle an ever-wider variety of items with near-human skill

The relentless surge of global e-commerce has transformed our expectations for speed and convenience. But behind the one-click purchase lies a vast, complex, and physically demanding logistics network.

At its heart is a critical bottleneck: the manual, often strenuous task of piece picking. For decades, the simple act of identifying a specific item from a diverse jumble in a bin, grasping it securely, and placing it in a shipping container has remained stubbornly in the human domain.

Humans’ innate combination of sight, touch, and judgment has been the one ingredient that automation couldn’t replicate. Possibly until now. [Read more…] about Robotic piece-picking: Inside the quest for human-level dexterity

Voliro raises $23 million to develop ‘aerial robotics for infrastructure’

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Voliro, a Swiss pioneer in aerial robotics – or drones, as some would call them, announced an extension of its Series A round, bringing the total raised to $23 million.

Voliro’s Series A extension saw new participation from noa venture capital and the addition of a debt facility from UBS.

The original round was led by Cherry Ventures. This additional capital will accelerate the development and global deployment of Voliro’s “autonomous aerial inspection robots” – designed to modernize infrastructure maintenance, enhance industrial safety, and address growing workforce shortages.

Built on a patented tiltable-rotor design and equipped with interchangeable sensor payloads, the Voliro T platform represents a new standard in intelligent, contact-based inspection. [Read more…] about Voliro raises $23 million to develop ‘aerial robotics for infrastructure’

Smarter Storage, Faster Shipping: Automation in the Supply Chain

June 14, 2025 by Sam Francis

In the global economy of 2025, customer expectations for fast, accurate, and affordable deliveries have reached an all-time high.

E-commerce giants and traditional retailers alike are under constant pressure to fulfill orders more quickly and efficiently than ever before.

To meet these demands, businesses are turning to automation to revolutionize their supply chains – from warehouse storage to final delivery.

According to McKinsey, companies that fully embrace supply chain automation can cut operational costs by 15% to 30% and improve delivery times by 20% to 40%. [Read more…] about Smarter Storage, Faster Shipping: Automation in the Supply Chain
