Siemens’ MindSphere wins plaudit as industrial IoT platform

MindSphere, the industrial internet of things platform from Siemens, has been named a leader in its market by an independent research firm.

MindSphere can be described as an industrial technology “ecosystem”, which now integrates software from SAS, AWS, Microsoft, Alibaba and Arrow Electronics.

Siemens says the IIoT has the potential to significantly improve global productivity and growth, with Accenture estimating that this latest wave of digital innovation will accelerate the reinvention of sectors that account for almost two-thirds of world output and add $14.2 trillion to the global economy by 2030. THine introduces 4Gbps low voltage differential transceiver IC

THine, the leader in high-speed serial interfaces and image signal processing, has introduced the high-volume availability of their new GPIO / LVCMOS transceiver IC, THCS251.

This new IC allows engineers to aggregate up to 37 lines of different data rates into just 4 lines that can be received and transmitted in the same IC.

Panasonic develops ‘multifunctional secure’ IC for industrial IoT

Panasonic has developed a multifunctional secure integrated circuit in response to the need for enhanced security measures to protect internet of things and industrial devices used in facilities such as factories and warehouses.

When installed in such devices, Panasonic says its new IC with unique encrypting functions will “boost their security”. The company will start sample shipments in February 2020.

Nvidia launches new SoC and software-defined platform for autonomous cars and robots

Nvidia has introduced a new, “highly advanced” software-defined platform for autonomous vehicles and robots.

The Nvidia Drive AGX Orin platform is powered by a new system-on-a-chip (SoC) called Orin, which consists of 17 billion transistors and is the result of four years of research and development investment.

The Orin SoC integrates Nvidia’s next-generation GPU architecture and Arm Hercules CPU cores, as well as new deep learning and computer vision accelerators that, in aggregate, deliver 200 trillion operations per second – nearly seven times the performance of Nvidia’s previous generation Xavier SoC. BP to migrate all its data to Amazon Web Services

Energy major BP is to to go “all-in” on Amazon Web Services and migrate its data to the online retail and cloud computing giant.

BP is closing its European mega data centers and migrating all data and 900 key applications currently hosted there to AWS, as part of a company-wide program to accelerate the digitization of its infrastructure and operations.
