Chipotle pilots robots at key restaurants

Chipotle Mexican Grill, one of the largest restaurant chains in the US, is piloting advanced technologies such as robotics to enhance its employee and guest experience by streamlining operations and reducing friction.

The company recently began piloting two new technologies in its restaurants to deliver precise forecasting, optimal quality, and increased convenience for digital guests.

In select Southern California restaurants, Chipotle is piloting a cook to needs kitchen management system that provides demand-based cooking and ingredient preparation forecasts to optimize throughput and freshness while minimizing food waste. ROBOJuice promises robot-made smoothies in 60 seconds

A startup company called ROBOJuice is promising “first-ever artificial intelligence and robotics-powered kiosk that can prepare and serve smoothies and acai bowls in under 60 seconds”.

Nik Sakhno, the founder of ROBOJuice, says the company has launched because the hospitality industry continues to embrace automation and it was good time to bring the machine to market.

With more than 10 years’ experience in the food automation industry, Sakhno, alongside a team of expert engineers, created ROBOjuice with the goal of helping fast-casual restaurants increase productivity, while being “10 times more affordable to deploy, and two times more profitable compared to traditional, labor-intensive fast-casual restaurants”. Miso Robotics expands through partnership with Americana Restaurants

Miso Robotics, specializing in the restaurant industry, is partnering with Americana Restaurants, a food and beverage operator and a master franchisee which works with brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Hardee’s, Krispy Kreme, and TGI Friday’s.

The collaboration will begin with a piloted test of Flippy at Americana Restaurants’ flagship Wimpy location in The Dubai Mall, one of the world’s largest shopping destinations.

Flippy 2, a robotics solution that can independently do the work of an entire fry station, has shown it can optimize operations in quick-service restaurants and is set for further integration and expansion across other Americana Restaurants locations in the months ahead. Hyphen raises $24 million to commercialise automated kitchen system

Hyphen, an automation company that uses software and robotics to help improve efficiency and consistency in commercial kitchens, has raised $24 million in Series A financing led by Tiger Global, with participation from Steve Fredette, the co-founder and president of Toast, Inc.

Existing investors who also participated in this oversubscribed round include Marc Rowan, co-founder and CEO of Apollo Global Management; Donald Moore, former chief culinary officer and EVP at The Cheesecake Factory; and more.

Hyphen has raised $34.4 million to date and will use the funds to build out their factory, expand into new markets, invest in research and dvelopment for next-generation products, and deploy with customers across the United States. Miso Robotics unveils ‘faster, more customizable’ burger-flipping robot

Miso Robotics has unveiled the newest model of Flippy, its flagship burger-flipping robot.

Flippy 2 is based on “key learnings and feedback” from Miso’s partner White Castle, who installed the original Flippy to a location in the Chicagoland area in September 2020 and plans to expand to additional locations once the pilot is over.

Miso says Flippy 2 takes over the work for an entire fry station and performs “more than twice as many food preparation tasks” compared to the previous version including basket filling, emptying and returning. Miso Robotics unveils robotic chicken wing frying solution

Miso Robotics, the startup specialising in automation for the foodservice industry, has launched its newest product line – Flippy Wings, which the company claims is “the only robotic chicken wing frying solution designed from the ground up for high volume restaurants”.

The lead innovation partner in the Flippy Wings initiative is the multi-brand restaurant company Inspire Brands.
