Cobots, Robot Offline Programming and 3D simulation: The driving forces behind the manufacturing evolution

June 3, 2024 by Abdul Montaqim

The collaborative robot (cobot) market is on a significant upward curve. Its global value is expected to be worth $11.8 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 35.2% from 2024.

In contrast to robots, cobots are designed to work in tandem with humans, with a tangible impact on cost, employee satisfaction, ROI and health & safety. They are also ideally placed to support understaffed workforces as the skills shortage in the sector continues.

But these automated machines do require effective programming to accurately complete their tasks and streamline factory floor processes, otherwise manufacturers face a difficult situation in not being able to deploy cobots where they are most needed. RoboDK and Comau partner to offer ‘improved’ robotic simulation and offline programming

March 11, 2024 by David Edwards

RoboDK, a pioneer in the world of robotics simulation and offline programming, has formed a strategic partnership with Comau, a global provider of advanced automation solutions and robot manufacturer. The latest version of Comau Roboshop Next Gen software seamlessly integrates with RoboDK, making simulation “more advanced”.

This collaboration solidifies RoboDK’s presence in the OEM market, marking a significant step as an embedded solution. Comau users can now enjoy the benefits of RoboDK directly due to RoboDK’s integration into Comau’s Roboshop Next Gen software suite.

This integration allows users to easily simulate and program robots using advanced CAD to path features, import 3D Models, detect collisions, integrate with external axes such as turntables and linear rails, support multiple robot cells in the same project, improved integration with CAD/CAM software and use advanced simulation features such as conveyors and grippers. CENIT paves the way to autonomous offline programming

December 17, 2023 by Mark Allinson

CENIT’s new FASTSUITE E2 release 2023.2 features 28 new functions and enhancements as well as three major highlights: Automated AI-based path optimization, automated seam searches plus efficient planning of welding operations via the Weld Cockpit.

Together, these features make FASTSUITE E2 a key tool for process optimization and cost effectiveness in robot welding applications, according to the company.

Release 2023.2 of the 3D simulation software FASTSUITE E2 is “the next big step” in CENIT’s approach to promoting sustainable digitalization in industrial manufacturing. [Read more…] about CENIT paves the way to autonomous offline programming

ABB expands RobotStudio with ability to control SCARA robots from PC

May 1, 2020 by Sam Francis

ABB says it has “simplified” the use of its popular SCARA robots by giving users the ability to commission and control the robots from their PC through RobotStudio, ABB’s simulation and offline programming software.

Robot Control Mate is an add-on to RobotStudio, enabling users to jog, teach and calibrate robots from their computer, making it easier than ever to control a SCARA robot’s movements.

For the first time, ABB’s offline programming software can be used to control the physical movements of a robot in real-time. Robot Control Mate also makes robot programming possible when a FlexPendant is not in place. [Read more…] about ABB expands RobotStudio with ability to control SCARA robots from PC

Offline programming software for industrial robots from RoboDK offers hundreds of virtual industrial robots from top robotics companies

July 14, 2015 by Abdul Montaqim

  • Offline industrial robot programming software, RoboDK, now has hundreds of virtual robots from all the leading industrial robot manufacturers, including ABB, Fanuc, and Kuka
  • RoboDK’s online library has more than 200 industrial robots, tools and external axes, which can be accessed directly from within the cross-platform application
  • Albert Nubiola, founder and CEO of RoboDK, talks to RoboticsandAutomationNews.com about offline programming and how RoboDK can play an increasingly important role in a market where other solutions can prove far more expensive

Offline programming software for industrial robots

Offline programming for industrial robots seems like such a logical method of managing industrial robots that it’s difficult to find a good enough reason to do it any other way. Offline programming for industrial robots, mostly in the form of industrial robot simulation software, is a relatively new development in industrial robotics but it has been gaining popularity over the past few years.

However, offline programming software for industrial robots is still not as widespread as perhaps one would expect it to be. The majority of robots were programmed using the teach pendant method. A teach pendant, also known as a “teach box”, is a hand-held device often attached to the robot which has numerous buttons and a screen with which to program the robot, usually on-site, requiring the robot to be isolated from the production line and not do any work.
