Associated Food Stores selects Symbotic to implement warehouse automation system

Associated Food Stores (AFS), a provider of groceries and other goods and services to independent retailers in nine Intermountain states, and Symbotic, a developer of AI-enabled robotics technology for the supply chain, have entered into a commercial agreement to implement Symbotic’s robotic warehouse automation technology in AFS’ Utah distribution center.

Symbotic says its end-to-end automation system, with robotic case pick capabilities, will allow AFS’ distribution center to “improve a variety of retail-facing experiences”, including overall supply, expanded selection and delivery of products to stores.

International Union of Operating Engineers and Built Robotics renew training partnership

Built Robotics, the inventor of the Exosystem, which is said to convert excavators into robots, has renewed its partnership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).

The renewal extends the strategic partnership through 2026, and will continue to put union members in the driver’s seat of construction automation.

James Callahan, general president of the IUOE, says: “Together with Built Robotics, we have pioneered a model of engagement between the Union and advanced technology providers to give our members continued opportunities to learn and develop their careers. Medical Microinstruments secures $75 million to advance robotic microsurgery

Medical Microinstruments, a robotics company dedicated to improving clinical outcomes for patients undergoing microsurgery, says it has raised $75 million in Series B financing.

Deerfield Management led the round with participation from new investors, RA Capital Management and Biostar Capital, as well as existing investors, Andera Partners, Fountain Healthcare Partners, Panakès Partners and Sambatech.

GXO partners with 6 River Systems for supply of warehouse robots

GXO Logistics, one of the world’s largest contract logistics providers, has reached a multi-year global agreement with 6 River Systems, a robotic fulfillment solutions provider, to meet the demand for collaborative mobile robots – also known as autonomous mobile robots – in its logistics operations across the US and Europe.

Sandeep Sakharkar, chief information officer at GXO, says: “6 River Systems’ Chucks provide a huge boost to the retention of our team members and deliver a substantial sustained increase in operational productivity.

GXO unveils DroneDog and Aerial Drone System from Asylon for security applications

GXO Logistics, which says it is the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, has deployed advanced air and ground security robotics at one of its major distribution centers in Clayton, Indiana, and plans to significantly increase deployment of automated security systems across other sites within the next year.

This would be the largest air and ground security robotics fleet in the world.

The DroneDog and DroneSentry duo, integrated with the DroneCore security platform from Asylon, are security technologies of the future, providing high-quality data and onsite activity updates that can detect potential issues in real time and simultaneously report them to the security team. Jack in the Box to pilot Miso’s robots in its burger joints

Miso Robotics has agreed a partnership with Jack in the Box to begin a piloted test that will install its Flippy 2 and Sippy core product lines in one of the national restaurant chain’s standalone locations, with possible plans for further integration in the months ahead.

Built on the Miso Platform, both products leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision and data analytics to maximize efficiency in the commercial kitchen.

White Castle orders 100 fast-food robots from Miso Robotics

White Castle, an American fast-food restaurant chain specialising in burgers and fries, has ordered 100 “Flippy 2” robotic frying cells from Miso Robotics, a company which has developed a range of robotic systems for the catering industry. (See video below.)

White Castle has almost 400 locations across the US and approximately 10,000 employees. With the installation of the robots – mainly the “Flippy 2” model (main picture) – many of its employees who were on frying duty will be put to different tasks. The company has been testing Miso robots since September 2020, and upgraded to Flippy 2 in November last year. .

Cimcorp has joined MHI’s AS/RS (automated storage/retrieval systems) Industry Group to further the development of automated warehousing solutions.

The industry group includes 25 of the world’s leading AS/RS suppliers who have installed thousands of systems worldwide, in virtually every manufacturing and distribution sector.
