Komatsu to develop zero-emission vehicles for mining industry

Komatsu says it will collaborate with its customers – most notably perhaps Rio Tinto – to develop “zero-emission equipment” solutions for the mining industry.

Komatsu, which is a leading supplier of mining vehicles, including an autonomous dump truck, says it plans to utilize electrification for the next generation of its offerings.

Working together to rapidly innovate in support of carbon reduction targets, Komatsu and several of its customers have formed the Komatsu Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Alliance. Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors partners with REE Automotive to develop autonomous mobility solutions

Hino Motors, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, and REE Automotive, an innovator in e-mobility, have signed a strategic business alliance agreement to realize their shared vision of “providing new value to society through next-generation commercial mobility”.

With the backdrop of advancements in CASE – Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric – vehicles, the automotive industry is entering a major transformation phase.

Hino and REE envision beyond this transformation a future in which commercial vehicles that support the movement of people and goods will evolve into mobility that provides new value and opportunities for society. Fanuc forms alliance with Doosan on workforce development

Fanuc America and Doosan Machine Tools America have formed a partnership to better prepare future machine operators.

The Fanuc Certified CNC Training Program now offers manufacturing skills development using Doosan machine tools.

The new offering adds to the depth and breadth of Fanuc’s CNC training tools as well as allows operators a hands-on experience with Doosan’s high performance CNC machines, which have been used in manufacturing for over 40 years. China Robot Industry Alliance selects HRG’s disinfection robot

The China Robot Industry Alliance, an industry association, has selected HRG’s disinfection robot as a “special case” in its 2020 White Paper on the Development of China’s Robotics Industry.

The recently released 2020 White Paper on the Development of China’s Robotics Industry, compiled by CRIA, has selected HRG anti-pandemic disinfection robot as “a typical case in its special topic on pandemic prevention robots”.

Russia and China ‘ditch’ dollar and increase use of euro

Russia and China are building a “financial alliance” and look set to “ditch” the dollar, according to a report on the Nikkei Asian Review website. 

The financial news website reports that the US dollar’s share of trade between Russia and China “fell below 50 percent for the first time on record” in the first quarter of 2020.

The source of the statistic is Russia’s Central Bank and Federal Customs Service, which published figures showing that a relatively low 46 percent of trade transactions between China and Russia were conducted or completed in US dollars. CATL and Honda agree ‘comprehensive strategic alliance’ on batteries for new energy vehicles

Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and automaker Honda have signed an agreement to form a “comprehensive strategic alliance” on new energy vehicle (NEV) batteries to strengthen their strategic partnership and promote the popularization of electrified vehicles.

This agreement will enable the two companies to begin discussions on a broad range of areas including joint development, stable supply, and the recycling and reuse of batteries.

By bringing together the two companies’ individual technology advantages, CATL and Honda will conduct joint development on NEVs batteries and joint research and development into fundamental technologies, aiming for their future application. MIPI Alliance completes development of new industry standard A-PHY v1.0

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, has completed the development of MIPI A-PHY v1.0, a long-reach serializer-deserializer (SerDes) physical layer interface for automotive applications.

The specification is undergoing member review, with official adoption expected within the next 90 days.

A-PHY will provide a physical layer for data transfers spanning an entire vehicle. As the first standard of its kind, it will help the automotive industry accelerate the availability of advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous driving systems and other surround-sensor applications, including cameras and in-vehicle infotainment displays. Pallet Alliance expands IoT-enabled wooden pallet tracking capability

Pallet Alliance, a developer of pallet management programs for multi-site manufacturing companies, has added the LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN connectivity protocol to its internet of things-enabled IntelliPallet platform.

Pallet Aliiance describes the protocol as “efficient, flexible, and economical”, and says its IntelliPallet platform is the industry’s first supply chain managed service to be integrated into wooden pallets.

The new capability is the result of Pallet Alliance’s collaboration with Semtech, a supplier of high performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms, and Viaanix, an IoT integration firm. Seine Alliance takes ‘first’ fully-electric passenger boat to Paris

Seine Alliance, a partnersip between Groupe Renault and Green Vision, has launched what it is the “first 100 per cent electric passenger boat with second life batteries” to Paris, France.

The “Black Swan”, as the boat is called, is specifically designed for private or business cruises on the Seine, the main river is Paris.

The aim of Seine Alliance and its partners is to be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of a model based on the principle of the circular economy, in order to reproduce it and create synergies between the various mobility players. ZF joins Mobility as a Service Alliance group

The automotive components and systems supplier ZF has become the first major automotive supplier to participate in the Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Alliance.

The objective of this special interest group that spans Europe is to bring about a paradigm shift in urban mobility, promote networked mobility concepts, and create uniform standards for technologies and legislation.

ZF says traffic jams, lack of parking, and air pollution mean that better mobility concepts are needed to avert the threat of complete gridlock in many city centers. [Read more…] about ZF joins Mobility as a Service Alliance group
