How Nvidia conquered the digital world and plans to dominate the robotics industry

January 7, 2025 by Mark Allinson

There was a time when it was difficult to see beyond Intel. It was indisputably the world’s largest chipmaker for a long time and eclipsed whoever else was around at the time. For some people, no other semiconductor manufacturer even existed.

Intel’s partnership with manufacturers of computers that ran the Windows operating system was largely responsible for the global success of the company whose unofficial motto was “Only the paranoid survive”.

But perhaps the total and utter domination of the market, and the falling away of would-be competitors into niche markets, led Intel to be less paranoid and get more relaxed – perhaps even complacent. Cogniteam builds AI capabilities for robots on Nvidia platform

October 13, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Cogniteam has used the Jetson AGX Orin to enable AI on robots using the Nimbus Operating System.

Dr Yehuda Elmaliah, co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam, says: “The Nvidia AGX Orin is a huge leap for manufacturers and developers who want to see greater AI capabilities on their edge robots.”

Cogniteam, a robotics company and creator of the Nimbus low-code robot development operating system, has integrated the latest Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin platform into its existing robot software packets. [Read more…] about Cogniteam builds AI capabilities for robots on Nvidia platform

Seoul Robotics demonstrates technology that enables cars to park themselves

August 24, 2022 by Mai Tao

Imagine driving a car – one without self-driving capabilities – to a mall, airport or parking garage, and using an app to have the car drive off to park itself. Software company Seoul Robotics is using Nvidia technology to make this possible – turning non-autonomous cars into self-driving vehicles.

Headquartered in Korea, the company’s initial focus is on improving first- and last-mile logistics such as parking. Its Level 5 Control Tower is a mesh network of sensors and computers placed on infrastructure around a facility, like buildings or light poles – rather than on individual cars – to capture an unobstructed view of the environment.

The system enables cars to move autonomously by directing their vehicle-to-everything, or so-called V2X, communication systems. These systems pass information from a vehicle to infrastructure, other vehicles, any surrounding entities – and vice versa. V2X technology, which comes standard in many modern cars, is used to improve road safety, traffic efficiency and energy savings. Nvidia unveils Jetson AGX Xavier industrial module

July 26, 2021 by Mai Tao

Chipmaker Nvidia has unveiled the Jetson AGX Xavier industrial module. The company says the new ruggedized module is engineered to bring artificial intelligence to harsh, safety-critical environments.

From factories and farms to refineries and construction sites, the world is full of places that are hot, dirty, noisy, potentially dangerous — and critical to keeping industry humming.

These places all need inspection and maintenance alongside their everyday operations, but, given safety concerns and working conditions, it’s not always best to send in humans. [Read more…] about Nvidia unveils Jetson AGX Xavier industrial module

Einride driverless trucks now powered by Nvidia chips

December 8, 2020 by Sam Francis

Autonomous electric truck maker Einride says the next generation of its groundbreaking “Pods” will use the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin autonomous vehicle computing platform to handle high-speed, unmanned operations.

Pär Degerman, CTO of Einride, says: “Safety and functionality in autonomous drive are achieved in two ways: diversity and redundancy.

“To capture and account for the diversity in a myriad of operational scenarios, and to develop the redundancy necessary to improve functionality, we need the most advanced processors possible, and that’s where Nvidia Orin comes in.” [Read more…] about Einride driverless trucks now powered by Nvidia chips

Nvidia launches new SoC and software-defined platform for autonomous cars and robots

January 29, 2020 by Mai Tao

Nvidia has introduced a new, “highly advanced” software-defined platform for autonomous vehicles and robots.

The Nvidia Drive AGX Orin platform is powered by a new system-on-a-chip (SoC) called Orin, which consists of 17 billion transistors and is the result of four years of research and development investment.

The Orin SoC integrates Nvidia’s next-generation GPU architecture and Arm Hercules CPU cores, as well as new deep learning and computer vision accelerators that, in aggregate, deliver 200 trillion operations per second – nearly seven times the performance of Nvidia’s previous generation Xavier SoC.
