SLAM software paving the way for new generation autonomous mobile robots

August 28, 2019 by David Edwards

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), a software-and-hardware technology which enables a mobile device to map its environment while positioning itself within it, is a crucial driver for robotics.

SLAM will enable the transition from automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in the industrial space.

According to report by global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research, the installed base of SLAM-enabled commercial and industrial robots will exceed 15 million by 2030. [Read more…] about SLAM software paving the way for new generation autonomous mobile robots

Collaborative robot market forecast to grow beyond $11 billion by 2030

August 13, 2019 by David Edwards

The collaborative robot market will exceed $11 billion by 2030, representing 29 percent of the total industrial robot market, according to ABI Research.

Buoyed by early innovators and adopters, the collaborative robotics market will become increasingly mainstream over the next 10 years.

The new analysis from global tech market advisory firm, ABI Research finds that the yearly revenue for cobot arms will reach $11.8 billion by 2030, an enormous increase from $711 million in 2019. [Read more…] about Collaborative robot market forecast to grow beyond $11 billion by 2030

Collaborative robots being bought at ‘feverish rate’

July 2, 2019 by Sam Francis

Most commentators and onlookers of the robotics industry hear of and understand the advertised value proposition of collaborative robots.

Cobots are smaller, more dexterous industrial robotic arms that open the possibility between human and machine collaboration without the need for complex programming or external safety infrastructure.

In reality, the value of current collaborative robotics is somewhat more modest. [Read more…] about Collaborative robots being bought at ‘feverish rate’

The current robotics limelight tends to focus on the ability of new innovations to automate tasks, but a less publicized development is taking place whereby passive exoskeletons have been slowly deployed and adopted to help augment the capability of human workers.

Exoskeleton popularization through passive suits will provide a base for increased resources for powered suits, which will eventually provide significant augmentative capability to the industrial workforce.

By 2028, global Exoskeleton revenues will reach $5 billion with hundreds of thousands of active exoskeletons being deployed, according to ABI Research. The research consultancy’s findings are on its report, Exoskeletons for Industrial Use Cases.

ABI Research forecasts revenues will reach nearly $45 billion in 2025, fueled by Chinese demand

ABI Research forecasts that industrial robot shipments will exhibit an average year-over-year growth rate of 16 per cent by 2021.

As industrial robots continue to infiltrate the workforce to increase production efficiencies, this will result in annual revenue exceeding $30 billion in 2020 and nearly $45 billion in 2025.

The automotive sector will remain the leading acquirer of industrial systems, even as it loses share to other growing industry verticals, including the electrical and electronics, rubber, and plastics industries.  [Read more…] about Industrial robot revenue will triple by 2025, says report
