Simbe Robotics adds RFID and machine learning capabilities to Tally robot

July 24, 2018 by Anna

Simbe Robotics has integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Machine Learning technology to enable its autonomous inventory robot, Tally, to capture in-store data on all RFID-tagged merchandise, from apparel to electronics, sporting goods to home decor.

In addition to its pre-existing computer vision abilities, Tally now captures over 700 RFID product tags per second with higher than 99% accuracy.

This frees shop workers from using handheld scanning devices and provides retailers with real-time insight into product availability and placement.

Collaborative robotics evolving into billion-dollar market

July 20, 2018 by David Edwards

collaborative robots

Cognitive systems are fueling the future of the robotics industry, while the collaborative robotics sector is “morphing into a billion-dollar market”, according to ABI Research.

There is a growing interest within the robotics industry as to the benefits of cognitive systems and how they can improve robotic solutions, both in the incremental sense of improving productivity and the strategic sense of adding entirely new capabilities that broaden the use-cases for robotics in the traditional parameters of the industry and beyond.

The innate value of cognitive systems run concomitant to the development of collaborative robotics, says ABI, which provides strategic guidance on transformative technologies.  [Read more…] about Collaborative robotics evolving into billion-dollar market

July 19, 2018 by Mai Tao

hit robot polishing-for-each-product

It might sound strange to some people but some Chinese companies have difficulties finding enough skilled workers for certain jobs.

You might expect that would not affect manufacturing because many jobs in the sector may require minimal training.

But, in fact, many jobs in manufacturing involve complex tasks which often require learning new skills and thorough training.  [Read more…] about HRG takes initiative in recruiting talent for robotics development

Westworld: Second season of epic sci-fi robot show ends run

July 16, 2018 by David Edwards

westworld season 2

A look back at the second season of Westworld, which recently ended its run on HBO

There are so many amazing stills from Westworld that it was difficult to choose one as the featured image for this article.

In the end, I chose what I think is the creepiest, but there are just so many creepy and bothersome things in Westworld, that I can only point you to the other images in this article and let you decide if I made a good choice or not.

And certainly I would suggest you watch the show if you’ve ever been a fan of TV.

Westworld is by far the most terrific television series ever. Maybe that’s an exaggeration but I haven’t watched much TV in years because nothing else intrigued me enough to spend as much time as I have watching this show and a few others as part of my job here at Robotics and Automation News.  [Read more…] about Westworld: Second season of epic sci-fi robot show ends run

Top Swiss brain doctors install HPE supercomputer to help them read people’s minds

July 13, 2018 by Sam Francis

One of Switzerland’s top universities has selected the Hewlett Packard Enterprise supercomputing system for its work in the area of neuroscience, which means looking inside brains.

Head doctors at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne will initially be using HPE’s new supercomputer for simulation-based research, analysis, and visualization, to advance the understanding of what they describe as the “mammalian brain”.

But the bonce specialists could easily scale up the system to analyze human brains and eavesdrop on people’s thoughts and eventually be used to control their actions, which has been shown to be the ambition of each and every megalomaniacal mad scientist in science fiction history.  [Read more…] about Top Swiss brain doctors install HPE supercomputer to help them read people’s minds
