Briefing – Products and Markets: Humanoid robots struggle to find a place in today’s society

July 2, 2018 by Sam Francis

asimo on stage

Humanoids are probably the type of robots that the general public finds most fascinating.

Yes, industrial robotic arms have their own attractions – the way they move so precisely and can work endlessly – but humanoids, for obvious reasons, possess the ultimate allure.

And if they take the form of your favourite person in the world – perhaps that film star you’ve had a crush on all your life – well, you’re practically in heaven.  [Read more…] about Briefing – Products and Markets: Humanoid robots struggle to find a place in today’s society

2017 was a bumper year for robotics investment, with even more funds to come, according to a report by ABI Research

The robotics industry continued to go from strength to strength as 2017 represented the largest year of investment, with the total amount adding up to $2.7 billion, according to ABI Research, a market-forecast advisory firm.

Rian Whitton, research analyst at ABI Research, says: “While the growth in investment from 2016 to 2017, at 23.2 per cent, slowed from growth between 2015 and 2016, this was affected by applying a narrower understanding of robotics, leaving out categories like autonomous cars.

“Had the same definition of robotics been used as in previous years, total investment would have exceeded $5 billion.”  [Read more…] about ‘Growing confidence in robotics’ leads to $2.7 billion in venture capital funding, says report

Top 30 interesting farming automation technologies and companies

June 28, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

In this briefing, Robotics and Automation News lists approximately 30 companies and advanced technologies emerging in the agriculture sector

In our recent article, “humorously” entitled “Alien farming technology…”, we mentioned that it might be a good idea to list some of the robotics and automation technologies emerging in the agricultural sector.

Which brings us here, and the slight problem of how to order the list. After minimal discussion, we decided to go random. So this list is not presented in any particular order. Hence the lack of numbers.

However, we do think all the technologies and companies mentioned below are offering something that will bring significant changes to the agricultural sector.  [Read more…] about Top 30 interesting farming automation technologies and companies

Genesis Robotics offers smaller radial flux ‘LiveDrive’ actuator

June 26, 2018 by Anna

genesis livedrive

Genesis Robotics and Motion Technologies (Genesis Robotics) is introducing a smaller, 110mm version of the LiveDrive TM actuator. This new, compact radial flux motor was developed to support a wider range of robotic designs.

The “LiveDrive 110” provides comparable high torque-to-weight, safe and precise actuation as the 250mm LiveDrive actuator, but its small size makes the actuator available for more versatile applications within and beyond robotics.

The LiveDrive actuator suite leverages three discoveries that contribute to the proprietary technology: amplified magnetics, structural-magnetic synergy and unusually high thermal conductivity.
