Kuka launches new collaborative robot

Kuka Robot Group has launched a new collaborative robot it calls “LBR iisy”. (See video below.)

The company says the new machine is specifically designed for work in the electronics sector but can be applied in many others.

In a statement, Kuka says: “The LBR iisy is incredibly effective and impressive both in industrial series production and in environments with dynamic, unstructured workplaces previously closed to automation.”

Sharp in talks to buy Toshiba’s computer business

Sharp is in talks to buy Toshiba’s personal computer business, according to a report on the Reuters website. 

Sharp is owned by Foxconn, which is the main contract manufacturer to, and makes iPhones and iPads for, Apple.

EcoRobotix raises $11 million funding for its farming robot

A Swiss company called EcoRobotix has raised $11 million in Series B financing to further develop and market its farming or gardening robot. 

Founded in 2011, EcoRobotix develops autonomous weeding robots, which help farmers to produce healthier food with a more efficient and sustainable use of herbicides.

After having successfully carried out pilot projects in Switzerland and Europe, and achieved key research and development milestones, the company closed a CHF 10.6 million ($11 million) Series B financing round recently.  [Read more…] about EcoRobotix raises $11 million funding for its farming robot

New Airbus chief wants more automation and digitalisation to increase productivity

The new president of Airbus says he will accelerate the adoption of the latest automation technologies in an effort to increase productivity at the company.

In an interview with news agency Reuters, Guillaume Faury, says he believes new technologies would “transform aircraft factories” in the coming years.

Thailand and South Korea sign new trade and investment deals

Thailand and South Korea have been working closely to increase bilateral trade and investment.

The two countries are among the largest manufacturers of advanced technological products in the world.

Boeing and Lufthansa complete order for four 777 planes

Boeing and the Lufthansa Group have completed an order for four more 777 airplanes, valued at $1.4 billion at list prices.

The purchase is part of the aviation company’s plans to modernize its fleet with newer widebody airplanes.

In a statement, Lufthansa Group said: “The order for the new long-haul aircraft highlights the strategy of Lufthansa Group to predominantly allocate the growth within its multi-hub system where cost and quality offer the best conditions for profitable investments.”  [Read more…] about Boeing and Lufthansa complete order for four 777 planes

New farming robot offers different method of pollination

When you picture the black and yellow creatures that pollinate plants, you probably don’t think of a Husky, the unmanned guided vehicle by Clearpath Robotics.

But that’s exactly what the team from West Virginia University is using for their current project – a Husky UGV, that is. (See video below.)

After winning NASA’s Sample Robot Return Challenge in 2016, the researchers have continued to put the system to use, repurposing it for another use-case (one of the advantages of having an easily customized robot that runs on ROS). Copan to showcase robotic solution for clinical microbiology

The company says the solution is now launched in North America.

KEB America awarded new ISO certification for Minnesota facility

KEB America has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification for their production facility located in Shakopee, Minnesota.

The certification, which came into effect January 2018, was issued after the facility met the criteria set by the International Organization for Standards and passed an audit, displaying zero non-conformities to the standard.

Side mirrors on cars can sometimes be bothersome, especially if you are driving through a very narrow space in, for example, a car park or something. 

The chances of your side mirror making contact with another vehicle or some part of the building are obviously higher than any other part of your car – except maybe the front and back bumpers.
