Daimler selects Xilinx chips to drive AI-based automotive applications

Chipmaker Xilinx and auto giant Daimler are collaborating to develop an in-car system using Xilinx technology for artificial intelligence processing in automotive applications.

Powered by a Xilinx automotive platform consisting of system-on-a-chip devices and AI acceleration software, the scalable solution will deliver high performance, low latency and best power efficiency for embedded AI in automotive applications today.

It’s probably the largest exhibition in the world built around the industrial automation industry.

Only a quarter of businesses currently able to attract recruits with right skills, says Epicor

Modern enterprise resource planning software, robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence could plug emerging industry skills gap and help businesses get fit for digital transformation

With over half the industry’s workforce aged over 35, and a third aged over 40, businesses in manufacturing, lumber, distribution, and retail are facing a dangerous skills gap on their factory floors, if they fail to recruit new talent before too long.

This is one of the findings of the latest research from Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of industry-specific enterprise software to promote business growth.

ABB launches new digital robot controller OmniCore

ABB has launched a new robot controller called “OmniCore”, which it describes as introducing a new era of “digital robot control” to increase flexibility, reliability and performance.

The new OmniCore robot controller family offers the broadest motion control options, more tailored solutions for the connected “Factory of the Future”, a current ABB theme.

Advantech aims for revenues of €350 million in Europe by 2025

Industrial computer maker Advantech has outlined its European growth strategy as it enters its next phase of IoT development.

One of the company’s main targets is the generation of revenues of €350 million across Europe by 2025.

Ardenna and HUVRdata partners on industrial asset inspection solution

Ardenna and HUVRdata, who announced a collaboration in April to integrate their respective capabilities into one platform, now have a fully automated defect detection, reporting and analytics solution for the energy sector.

This enhanced platform unites Ardenna’s AI-based automated defect detection software with HUVR’s Automation and Enterprise Industrial Asset Management Reporting and Analytic toolset to provide customers with a solution for industrial asset inspections.

HUVRdata’s platform offers the storage of inspection data from disparate sources in a database, customer-defined inspection checklists and report formats, diagnostic analytics, and business system integrations. The integration of Ardenna’s software automates the defect detection process and automated defect labelling.

North American semiconductor equipment sales at an all-time high

North American semiconductor equipment sales are at an all-time high, according to the leading industry association, Semi.

North America-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted $2.7 billion in billings worldwide in May 2018, according to the May Equipment Market Data Subscription Billings Report, published by Semi.

The billings figure is 0.6 percent higher than the final April 2018 level of $2.69 billion, and is 19.2 percent higher than the May 2017 billings level of $2.27 billion.  [Read more…] about North American semiconductor equipment sales at an all-time high

H2O.ai enhances its Driverless AI with new ‘time series’ version

H2O.ai, the open source AI company, has released a new version of its automated machine learning platform H2O Driverless AI, with enhancements that it says will enable organisations to expand their current AI strategy and improve accuracy of predictive datasets.

The latest innovations in Driverless AI include time series support aimed at improving predictions within transactional datasets and auto documentation, as well as updated AutoViz, Machine Learning Interpretability (MLI) and Automatic Pipelines.

With the time series capability in Driverless AI, H2O.ai directly addresses some of the most pressing concerns of organisations across industries for use cases such as transactional data in capital markets, tracking in-store and online sales in retail, and using sensor data to improve supply chain or predictive maintenance in manufacturing.

Hitachi helps ferry operator Stena Line to increase business performance while maintaining its commitment to sustainable shipping operations

Hitachi has partnered with Stena Line, one of the largest shipping companies in Europe, to implement artificial intelligence technology on ships to reduce fuel consumption costs and become an important tool in the company’s efforts to minimise environmental impact.

The partnership will see a team of Hitachi experts from across its business units review the existing digital architecture, in close collaboration with Stena Line, and advise the ferry company as it aims to become the world’s leading cognitive shipping company by 2021.
