Einride and Mars partner to develop ‘largest’ electric project in industry

January 27, 2024 by David Edwards

Einride, a freight mobility company that provides digital, electric and autonomous technology, has agreed a partnership with food manufacturer Mars Inc to deploy a fleet of digitally optimized electric heavy-duty trucks across Mars’ network by 2030.

It is estimated that the European operations will save 20,000 metric tons of CO2e each year by 2030, accounting for roughly a 10 percent reduction in Mars Europe’s road transport GHG emissions.

Robert Falck, CEO and founder at Einride, says: “This sets a precedent for other players in the freight industry to follow, showcasing the mass potential of electrification at scale. [Read more…] about Einride and Mars partner to develop ‘largest’ electric project in industry

Dedicated Lanes for Autonomous Vehicles

January 23, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Autonomous, or self-driving vehicles are already here, although in limited use. These cars and trucks have great promise for improving the driving experience for individuals and making trucking more efficient and less costly.

They are in the testing phase and will not be widely adopted until late in his decade.

Many in the industry originally thought progress for autonomous vehicles would be further along by now, but some difficulties have arisen. Safety is the primary concern, especially when these vehicles go truly driverless. Many on the road now have a human copilot aboard to make certain no safety issues arise. Einride partners with Kaufland to open e-charging park at Möckmühl Logistics Center

January 7, 2024 by David Edwards

Kaufland, a German supermarket chain, is electrifying its freight operations, starting with a pioneering project at the Möckmühl logistics site with the opening of its first charging park.

The facility boasts eight chargers, each with a separate lane for an electric tractor unit, including an electrically powered refrigerated trailer. This project stands as one of the largest in Germany. The columns consist of DC charging stations with an output of up to 350 kW, enabling rapid charging.

As part of its strategic partnership with Einride, a provider of intelligent solutions for digital, electric, and autonomous freight transportation, Kaufland will deploy large e-trucks for store deliveries. Einride partners with GE to start first full-time daily commercial autonomous truck operation

November 15, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Einride, a developer of electric and autonomous trucks, has launched full-time operations with its autonomous vehicle.

The operations, in partnership with GE Appliances, a Haier company, mark “an important step” in the integration of autonomous transportation supporting full time commercial flows, according to the company.

The daily transport of finished goods takes place between GE Appliances’ manufacturing facility and warehouse in Selmer, Tennessee, Monday through Thursday, enabling up to seven shuttles a day, producing zero tailpipe emissions through the autonomous operation and showcasing how Einride’s freight capacity as a service (FaaS) model can be enabled with autonomous vehicles. Autonomous yard trucks market predicted to grow at more than 50 percent a year

September 29, 2023 by Mark Allinson

The global market for autonomous yard trucks market is forecast to grow at more than 50 percent a year. This is according to a report by technology intelligence firm ABI Research.

The installed base of artificial intelligence-enabled cameras in the yard will reach 11.2 million globally by 2030, and the uptake of autonomous yard trucks will rise significantly at a global compound annual growth rate of 52.7 percent from 2022 to 2030.

Bringing yards up to speed with warehouse and transport digitalization is driving the adoption of established supply chain technologies to help track, allocate, and optimize assets in the yard. [Read more…] about Autonomous yard trucks market predicted to grow at more than 50 percent a year

Swedish city Helsingborg receives $258,000 grant to test robotic garbage collection

July 8, 2023 by Mark Allinson

By 2027, the city of Helsingborg aims to become one of the world’s best cities to live and work in. Recently, the city received a grant from Sweden’s Innovation Agency, Vinnova, to test autonomous robots in garbage collection.

Traditionally, garbage collection has involved loud trucks blocking the streets and interrupting early mornings. In collaboration with Robot Minds AB and the regional waste management company Nordvästra Skånes Renhållnings AB (NSR), the City of Helsingborg aims to implement a project where service robots collect the garbage instead.

In mid-June, it was decided that the project would receive funding of SEK 2.8 million from Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, through the strategic innovation program Drive Sweden. [Read more…] about Swedish city Helsingborg receives $258,000 grant to test robotic garbage collection

A Step-by-Step Guide for Developing a Truck Fleet Management Strategy

May 22, 2023 by David Edwards

The truck fleet sector is one of the most important industries because it makes possible the transportation of all goods that people use daily. In fact, US trucks transported around 10.93 billion tons of freight in 2021.

It simply shows the importance and extensiveness of the sector. So, if you own a truck fleet and want to create a successful company, you will need a well-developed truck fleet management strategy to accomplish it.

A fleet management strategy is a document that outlines how you will construct, operate, and improve your fleet’s everyday operations to maximize efficiency and achieve the overall goals of the company. These elements are critical to achieving both short and long-term success. [Read more…] about A Step-by-Step Guide for Developing a Truck Fleet Management Strategy

Outrider equips autonomous trucks with deep-learning driven robotic arms

December 23, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Outrider, the startup developing autonomous yard operations for logistics hubs, has releaseed TrailerConnect – a patented technology that robotically attaches the needed brake and electric lines from yard trucks to any of the over 10 million trailers and chassis circulating globally.

A deep-learning based technology, TrailerConnect is now available as part of the Outrider System, which automates distribution yards for large, logistics-dependent enterprises.

In distribution yards around the globe, yard trucks transition semi-trailers from dock doors to parking spots to public roads. To move these trailers, truck drivers connect pressurized brake lines to semi-trailers to release the parking brake and move the trailers around the yard – a hazardous manual task that requires the driver to get in and out of the cab constantly.
