Busy Beaver partners with Badger Technologies

September 15, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Badger Technologies, a product division of Jabil and maker of a retail automation robot, says its multipurpose autonomous robots have been selected for some work by Busy Beaver Building Centers, operator of 25 full-line home improvement centers in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Following a successful pilot launched earlier this year, Badger Technologies is deploying production robots starting at a new store in Delmont, Pennsylvania, where associates seamlessly manage more than 33,000 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) while embracing the latest in retail automation to improve operations and shopping experiences.

As part of Busy Beaver’s commitment to adopt leading-edge technology, the company has fully embraced Electronic Shelf Labels to eliminate manual price changes, as well as more closely monitor in-store traffic and buying trends. [Read more…] about Busy Beaver partners with Badger Technologies

Revenues from robotics implemented in retail stores to cross $8.4 billion by 2030

August 25, 2022 by David Edwards

simbe robotics tally at decathlon

As the world emerges from the global pandemic, retail is growing at levels not seen in the last two decades. Retail sales grew by 7 percent in 2020 and by over 14 percent in 2021, which is in stark contrast to the 3.7 percent annual growth between 2010 and 2019.

The increased demand for retail has put a strain on supply chains and retail operations worldwide. As a result, retailers and stakeholders are turning to automation solutions such as mobile robotics for operational ease.

According to global technology intelligence firm ABI Research, worldwide commercial robot revenue in retail stores will have a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of over 25 percent from 2022 to 2030 and exceed $8.4 billion by 2030. Robots in retail: Delivering the goods in 2022

July 27, 2022 by David Edwards

By Ritukar Vijay, CEO at Ottonomy

Retailers are feeling the heat from rising labor costs, and are increasingly looking to automated solutions to keep worker costs down.

According to a February 28, 2022 story in The Wall Street Journal, US retailers spent 4 percent more cash on labor costs in the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020.

Big box brands like Target, Costco, and Walmart are all raising wages above beyond the $15 minimum wage level to secure the staffing they need to stay competitive. For retailers, restaurants, and other consumer-facing businesses, the wage growth issue stems from a burgeoning problem – not enough workers.
