General Motors and Red Hat partner to develop software-defined vehicles

Automotive giant General Motors and open source software provider Red Hat have formed a partnership to “help advance software-defined vehicles at the edge”.

The companies expect to expand an ecosystem of innovation around the Red Hat In-Vehicle Operating System, which provides a functional-safety certified Linux operating system foundation intended for the ongoing evolution of GM’s Ultifi software platform.

The collaboration between Red Hat and GM is a significant moment in the convergence of the transportation and technology industries, with Red Hat’s cloud-native, enterprise-grade open source operating system accelerating the development of GM’s software-defined vehicle programs following Ultifi’s initial launch. Flexiv unveils new operating system for its adaptive robots

Flexiv, a developer of robotic and artificial intelligence solutions, has unveiled Flexiv Elements, its all-new operating system for “adaptive robots”.

Adaptive robots are a new category – very similar to collaborative robots – which Flexiv is concentrating on. It describes its “Rizon” model (main picture) as “the first adapative robot” – referring to its ability to maintain performance even amid significant changes in the environment, such as floating base, vibration, and human interference.

Created to provide integrators with “ground-breaking new features” which simplify complex robotic operations, Flexiv says Elements makes it “easier than ever” before to develop customized programs that enhance efficiency and productivity. ExcelsiusGPS robotic system used for brain surgery

Christus Health has become the first health provider to use a robotic system for brain surgery, describing the ExcelsiusGPS as “a world-class robotic guidance and navigation system”.

The ExcelsiusGPS system, built by Globus Medical, was used in the first Christus Ochsner Health case this week, setting a new standard for robotic neurosurgery procedures in Southwest Louisiana.

Brain Corp’s European robotic cleaning fleet reaches 500 million square feet covered autonomously in 2021

Brain Corp, which provides an operating system for commercial floor-cleaning robots, says its BrainOS-powered fleet of autonomous mobile robots has hit a new milestone of 500 million square feet covered (46.45 million square meters) autonomously in Europe during 2021.

Coming off the back of significant year-on-year growth, Brain Corp has seen momentum build throughout 2021 with the company recording 226 percent growth in floor area covered autonomously between April and October, 2021 alone.

Brain Corp’s robotic fleet covers 100 billion square feet

GreyOrange expands robotics reach to new European markets

GreyOrange, a warehouse robotics and automation company, has expanded its GreyMatter operating system and Ranger MoveSmart robots in Active Ants’ e-fulfilment centre in Willebroek, Belgium.

GreyOrange says its solution to modern fulfilment has already been providing higher value and higher levels of efficiency to the Active Ants fulfilment centre in The Netherlands and has since scaled its offering to the Belgian market in preparation for surges in eCommerce demand over the end of year holiday period.
