Kenco AutoStore System now live at Jeffersonville, Indiana distribution center

Kenco, a third-party logistics provider, says its installation of a system from AutoStore, a provider of an automated storage and retrieval system, is live at the company’s Jeffersonville, Indiana distribution center.

Designed in conjunction with KPI Solutions, the system is Kenco’s largest AutoStore installation, with 49,000 bins, 130 grid robots, 10 picking ports and four replenishment ports.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of Kenco’s fulfillment customers, the AutoStore ASRS’ cubic layout quadruples storage capacity vs. traditional warehouse racking. The system maximizes existing labor and space, enabling 24/7 fulfillment and covering about a quarter of one facility at the Jeffersonville campus. Udelv autonomous vehicle provides services for nonprofit organizations

Udelv, a maker of autonomous delivery vehicles, has teamed up with Toyota Mobility Foundation and Energy Systems Network to provide services to two non-profit organizations in central Indiana under TMF’s Together in Motion initiative.

The delivery vehicle – which was launched in Indianapolis on November 5th, 2021 – and has enabled HATCH for Hunger and Southeast Community Services to provide essential goods to community members and food pantry partners.

Autonomous vehicles from Udelv and May Mobility to be used in futuristic Indiana project

Autonomous vehicles from Udelv and May Mobility have been chosen for application in a futuristic project overseen by the state of Indiana, in the US. 

The project also involves Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) and Energy Systems Network (ESN), which have jointly designated May Mobility and Udelv as the first two implementation of the “Future Mobility District” initiative.

The Future Mobility District initiative, established in collaboration with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), aims to foster innovation through industry partnerships and propel research and development in advanced mobility technologies in Indiana. Wynright aims to double sales after opening new $26 million manufacturing facility

Wynright, a wholly-owned subsidiary of material handling giant Daifuku, says it aims to double sales after it opens its new $26 million manufacturing facility at the end of this year.

Wynright plans to expand its North American US manufacturing capabilities in the Greater Chicago area. The company will consolidate its existing factories in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and Oak Lawn, Illinois into a new, larger facility in Hobart, Indiana, in phases, by the end of December 2019.

In line with the completion of the new factory, the existing factories in Elk Grove and Oak Lawn in Illinois will close. Daifuku Wynright has offered all employees at both sites the opportunity to continue with the company at the new facility. General Motors to invest $24 million to expand truck production at Indiana plant

General Motors Co. (GM) is making a new round of upgrades to its Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana, USA, to further increase production of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups – especially crew cab models.

Combined sales of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab pickups, which launched in the second half of 2018, were up 20 percent in the first quarter of 2019 versus a year ago.

GM is projecting another significant increase for the second quarter. Customer deliveries of the double-cab models built in Fort Wayne began during the first quarter.

2018 Indiana Manufacturing Survey: Push for automation increases

As Indiana’s largest industry sector enjoys continued growth in revenues and profits, its employers are investing heavily in automation and manufacturing efficiency, welcoming an industry movement that, nationally, has been dubbed “Industry 4.0”.

The 2018 Indiana Manufacturing Survey: Industry 4.0 Has Arrived shows that most Indiana, USA manufacturers consider investments in facilities, machinery and related information technology to be their top concern.

Meanwhile, the percentage of firms identifying workforce development as their top concern declined to its lowest level in a decade.
