Kenco AutoStore System now live at Jeffersonville, Indiana distribution center

Kenco, a third-party logistics provider, says its installation of a system from AutoStore, a provider of an automated storage and retrieval system, is live at the company’s Jeffersonville, Indiana distribution center.

Designed in conjunction with KPI Solutions, the system is Kenco’s largest AutoStore installation, with 49,000 bins, 130 grid robots, 10 picking ports and four replenishment ports.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of Kenco’s fulfillment customers, the AutoStore ASRS’ cubic layout quadruples storage capacity vs. traditional warehouse racking. Question: How has self-operating equipment and other innovations transformed the warehouse?

Answer: It might be easier to ask how haven’t these innovations transformed the warehouse. Automation touches nearly every area of warehouse operations, from the moment the pen hits the blueprint.

For example, supply chain professionals lay warehouses out differently to account for automated lifts that collect and transport goods from racks, invest in automated carts to bring goods directly to pickers, and adopt technology that instructs pickers on exactly which items to pick and how many.
