Hannover Messe and CeMAT review: Raving with the machines

April 27, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

The machines are not out to get us, claims Deutsche Messe boss

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto set the tone on day one of the Hannover Messe/CeMAT double-header. Asked to shake hands with a robot, they both went for the more casual fist bump – a symbol for the relaxed, natural interaction of humans with digitization, robots and machine learning. (See main picture.)

Dr Jochen Köckler, chairman of the managing board at Deutsche Messe, at the close of Hannover Messe/CeMAT, said: “Technology is not about competing with us humans – it’s about assisting us. That is the core message conveyed by this trade fair, which has again underscored Hannover’s reputation as a global hotspot for the digital transformation of industry.

“The focus here has clearly been on the human element: We’re the ones making the decisions and setting the course. The interaction of humans with machines and IT adds up to a huge competitive gain across manufacturing, logistics and the energy industry.” [Read more…] about Hannover Messe and CeMAT review: Raving with the machines

Hannover Messe: Global expansion for events platform

April 26, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

hannover-messe-2017

Deutsche Messe is the company behind the annual Hannover Messe industrial technology show, and generates annual revenues of around $360 Million, give or take $100 million.

The company has been expanding recently into Asia, with several new trade events for the manufacturing industry as well as the logistics sector.

For the logistics sector, Deutsche Messe holds a series of events under the brand name of CeMAT. While both these events are expectedly huge in Germany, they are also rather large in other parts of the world. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe: Global expansion for events platform

Hannover Messe: An überwhelming experience

April 25, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

Hannover Messe

This is the second time I have been to Hannover Messe and I thought I was better prepared for what is probably the largest industrial technology show in the world.

But even though I had a lot of ideas of what to cover, it turns out that Hannover Messe has many more ideas than I brought with me and has overwhelmed me again.

The basic numbers about the show are impressive enough — close to a quarter of a million visitors over the five days the show lasts in the German city of Hannover. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe: An überwhelming experience

Universal Robots presents mobile plug-and-produce solutions at Hannover

April 18, 2018 by Anna

universal robots automate show

At the Hannover Messe 2018, which takes place on April 23-27, Universal Robots will be demonstrating how ‘Plug-and-Produce’ facilitates simple and flexible automation solution implementation.

The company will be displaying practical application examples to show how versatile, swiftly integrated components are allowing companies to successfully meet challenges, such as a growing variety of products and increasingly flexible batch sizes. Most of the applications’ accessories come from Universal Robots+ ecosystem.

“At our booth, fair visitors will see for themselves that ‘Plug-and-Produce’ is a reality, thanks to our UR+ ecosystem. It offers access to a constantly growing number of grippers, sensors, software and additional accessories, all of which are guaranteed to be implementable via Plug-and-Play, says Helmut Schmid, General Manager for Universal Robots in Western Europe.

Country insight: Singapore industry prepares for transformation

April 17, 2018 by Mai Tao

Singapore is so small that you could walk from coast to coast in less than an hour, with a coffee break halfway into your stroll.

Located in southeast Asia, at the southern edge of Malaysia, Singapore island has a total land area of around 700 square kilometres.

And its population is tiny too, numbering well under 6 million, 75 per cent of whom are of Chinese background, 13 per cent Malay, and 10 per cent Indian, with “others” accounting for the rest.  [Read more…] about Country insight: Singapore industry prepares for transformation

Digitalisation and the greatest industrial show on Earth

March 13, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

hannover messe merkle

Hannover Messe is probably the largest and most important industrial technology show on Earth.

The venue for the event spans an area the size of a small town and it takes several days to visit all of the most important areas you might be interested in.

Covering an event of that magnitude from a journalistic point of view can be difficult if you’re interested in too many things.  [Read more…] about Digitalisation and the greatest industrial show on Earth

In this article by Hannover Messe, experts say the industrial sector has more potential to save on energy costs

Six out of ten companies are satisfied with the results of their most recent energy efficiency measures according to the energy efficiency index EEI’s winter evaluation.

The Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production at the University of Stuttgart surveys the German industry’s ongoing and planned activities regarding energy efficiency every six months.

“The latest information campaign from the German Ministry of Economics, is correct and will remain enormously important,” says the director of EEP Professor Alexander Sauer. “Ignorance continues to be a major obstacle.”   [Read more…] about Energy efficiency: The industrial sector can do much more, say experts
