Distalmotion completes first US sale of its Dexter robotic surgery system

March 28, 2025 by David Edwards

Distalmotion says it has completed the first US sale and delivery of the Dexter Robotic Surgery System to Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas in early February. This milestone marks a significant step toward expanding access to robotic-assisted surgery in the United States.

Distalmotion, a MedTech company with more than 1,500 surgical cases completed to date in Europe, is actively expanding within the US with its Dexter robot, which received FDA De Novo market authorization last quarter.

The company’s mission is to increase access to robotics for more surgeons and for outpatient sites of care – where it is limited today by the operational requirements of traditional robots. [Read more…] about Distalmotion completes first US sale of its Dexter robotic surgery system

Distalmotion surgical robot used for first time in outpatients department

December 3, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Less than 30 days after receiving FDA De Novo marketing authorization, Distalmotion’s Dexter Surgical Robot has successfully treated the first US patients in an outpatient setting. Two adult inguinal hernia repairs were completed with Dexter on November 26.

Greg Roche, Distalmotion’s CEO, says: “With over 90 percent of inguinal hernia repairs in the US performed in outpatient and ambulatory surgical settings, there is a need for robotic solutions tailored to these environments.

“We are thrilled to demonstrate how Dexter can overcome the traditional barriers of cost, space, and workflow disruption in the outpatient setting, while delivering robotic excellence that elevates surgeon and patient care.” [Read more…] about Distalmotion surgical robot used for first time in outpatients department

US FDA grants authorization for Distalmotion surgical robot

November 1, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Distalmotion has been granted De Novo approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the Dexter Surgical Robot for adult inguinal hernia repair.

This significant milestone marks another step forward in Distalmotion’s mission to empower robotic surgery excellence by expanding access and improving care with robotic assisted surgery in the hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgery centers (ASC’s) where over 90 percent of inguinal hernia repairs are currently performed in the United States.

With more than 1,300 patients successfully treated in Europe, Distalmotion’s extensive experience has paved the way for bringing this innovation to the US market. [Read more…] about US FDA grants authorization for Distalmotion surgical robot

Saintonge becomes first hospital in France to install the Dexter surgical robot

April 25, 2022 by David Edwards

Saintonge says it has become the first hospital in France to install the Dexter surgical robot, which was developed by Distalmotion, a Swiss company.

With its new Dexter system Saintonge Hospital says it is pioneering a new approach to best-in-class minimally invasive care called “on-demand robotics”.

This new concept allows laparoscopic surgeons to choose their preferred tools for every step of a surgical procedure. Sometimes these will be handheld tools, manipulated manually at bedside. [Read more…] about Saintonge becomes first hospital in France to install the Dexter surgical robot

Electric Sheep Robotics launches its Dexter robotic lawnmower system

January 25, 2022 by David Edwards

Electric Sheep Robotics, the leader in autonomous lawn mowing, has officially launched its Dexter robot.

Dexter takes existing commercial lawn mowers, both gas and electric, and turns them into autonomous vehicles. Dexter is designed to address critical labor shortages in the landscaping, facilities, and property management industries.

Nationally, a record 4.5 million US workers quit their jobs in November. There are more job openings than there are workers. The labor market in landscaping is particularly dire. [Read more…] about Electric Sheep Robotics launches its Dexter robotic lawnmower system

Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches

August 26, 2021 by David Edwards

Robotic lawnmower startup Electric Sheep Robotics has now officially launched as “an autonomy partner to the landscaping industry”.

The company is tackling the industry’s single most pressing challenge, a decades-long shortage of reliable labor. This has often resulted in businesses that are unable to grow beyond a certain size even if the demand is present.

Over 50 percent of landscape maintenance involves lawn mowing, a tedious and repetitive process made physically grueling by exposure to harsh weather. This exacerbates the industry’s labor shortages, low growth and shrinking margins. [Read more…] about Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches
