Nvidia supercharges autonomous systems development with Omniverse Cloud APIs

May 3, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Nvidia accelerates development of autonomous systems

While simulation is critical for training, testing and deploying autonomy, achieving real-world fidelity is incredibly challenging.

It requires accurate modeling of the physics and behavior of an autonomous system’s sensors and surroundings.

Designed to address this challenge by delivering large-scale, high-fidelity sensor simulation, Omniverse Cloud APIs, announced recently at Nvidia GTC, are poised to accelerate the path to autonomy. They bring together a rich ecosystem of simulation tools, applications and sensors. [Read more…] about Nvidia supercharges autonomous systems development with Omniverse Cloud APIs

Korean scientists develop new navigation system for autonomous ships

April 26, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Existing ship control systems using Model Predictive Control for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) do not consider the various forces acting on ships in real sea conditions.

Addressing this gap, in a new study, researchers developed a novel time-optimal control method, that accounts for the real wave loads acting on a ship, enabling effective planning and control of MASS at sea.

The study of ship manoeuvring at sea has long been the central focus of the shipping industry. With the rapid advancements in remote control, communication technologies and artificial intelligence, the concept of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) has emerged as a promising solution for autonomous marine navigation. What did Lithuanian startup company LastMile learn from its autonomous car experiment?

March 29, 2024 by David Edwards

The future of home shopping delivery is clearly linked to autonomous technologies. Lithuania is not chasing others in this field, but is rather taking a lead that brings useful insights for the whole market.

In Vilnius, fleets of delivery robots have joined already the busy city center traffic for the first time in Europe. According to Tadas Noruskaitis, CEO and co-founder of LastMile, the startup that implemented the project, the decision to entrust shopping to robots has paid off, showing what already works and what could be improved.

In 2022, the first LastMile fleet of delivery robot rolled into Vilnius’ Balsiai district. Less than a year later, three robots appeared in the center of the capital, becoming the first trio of robot couriers to operate as fully-fledged vehicles on the city’s central streets.
