Wind River, a developer of software for intelligent systems, says Riverfield is using VxWorks to develop the Saroa Surgical System, a surgical assist robot.

ABB and Tenova supply technology to Hasçelik for making ‘special steel’

ABB has partnered with Tenova, a developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry, to install and commission equipment in a new Hasçelik steel plant in Osmaneli, Turkey, about 200 km south-east of Istanbul.

Hasçelik is one of Turkey’s leading manufacturers of “special steel” with a total of five manufacturing plants and other locations worldwide.

StilFold sells its first ‘industrial origami’ metal-folding machine to USA

Manufacturing startup StilFold has sold its first “industrial origami” metal-folding machine to industry, in a deal with Georgia Tech’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the USA.

Studies suggest manufacturing accounts for more than half of the total environmental impact of the US economy. Stockholm-based StilFold is pioneering the use of curve folding and robotics to build things more sustainably.

The company has created groundbreaking technology which involves the use of a specialist robotic cell and computational design software to fold flat sheet metal over curves to create complex, light and sustainable new structures, using minimal component parts. Nvidia partners with Foxconn to build factories and systems

Nvidia says it is collaborating with Hon Hai Technology Group – more popularly known as Foxconn – to accelerate the AI industrial revolution.

Foxconn will integrate Nvidia technology to develop a new class of data centers powering a wide range of applications – including digitalization of manufacturing and inspection workflows, development of AI-powered electric vehicle and robotics platforms, and a growing number of language-based generative AI services.

Announced during a “fireside chat” between Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang and Foxconn chairman and CEO Young Liu at Hon Hai Tech Day, in Taipei, Taiwan, the collaboration starts with the creation of AI factories – an Nvidia GPU computing infrastructure specially built for processing, refining and transforming vast amounts of data into valuable AI models and tokens – based on the Nvidia accelerated computing platform, including the latest Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and Nvidia AI Enterprise software. Continental acquires Kinexon’s robot operating systems division

Continental has acquired Kinexon’s specialist division for on-board operating systems for the intelligent control of autonomous mobile robots (AMR), thereby strengthening its own position in the strategic growth field of mobile robotics.

The core of the acquisition is the “Brain” on-board operating system developed for the precise and networked control of autonomous mobile transport robots, including the IP rights to this market-leading and proven solution.

In addition, the division’s highly qualified development team is moving from Kinexon to Continental. Through this acquisition, Continental is expanding its own depth of value creation, extending its robotics expertise in software and hardware, and thus strengthening its own range of customer solutions for mobile robots.
