Groupe PSA increases SUV production capacity in Europe

The recent introduction of 11 SUV models by the PSA Group’s five brands – Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Opel and Vauxhall – has led to an increased share of the European SUV market, rising to 16.9% at the beginning of 2018 with 250,000 registrations in Europe in the first quarter of 2018.

As of end-March, the Group was among segment leaders and the offensive was being pursued, with the upcoming roll-out of the Citroën C5 Aircross in September in Europe.

The Group has decided to increase its production capacity in Europe, with the Citroën C5 Aircross starting production in Rennes (France), along with the Peugeot 5008.

New BMW 8 Series Coupé in production at Dingolfing plant in Germany

The BMW Group‘s Dingolfing plant began series production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupé, the sportscar that will launch the BMW model offensive in the luxury segment.

A large number of digital innovations have also been integrated into the production process, including self-driving transport systems and smart devices.

Intelligent lightweight construction, with a clever mix of materials, including steel, plastic, aluminium and carbon fibre, is used in the body of the new sportscar.

Denso integrates operations in South Korea

Denso Corporation, major supplier of automotive technology and components, is to integrate the operations of three of its group companies: Denso Korea Electronics Corporation, Denso Korea Automotive Corporation, and Denso International Korea Corporation.

The combined companies will operate as Denso Korea Corporation and will integrate the development, manufacturing and sales of automotive components in the region.

Since the establishment of its first production company in South Korea in 1976, Denso has locally manufactured display products, such as instrument clusters and head-up displays, as well as car air conditioners, starters, alternators, and small motors for automakers in South Korea.

Volvo Trucks and FedEx demonstrate truck ‘platooning’ in the USA

Volvo Trucks North America has carried out a successful on-highway demonstration of its truck platooning technology.

The company has been working closely with FedEx and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) to expand on-highway operations of Volvo’s Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) in the United States on N.C. 540, the Triangle Expressway.

This marks the first public on-highway showcase of platooning technology between a major truck manufacturer and a transportation company in the U.S.

Geek Plus Robotics integrates ‘one of the largest robotics warehouses’ in Asia

Geek Plus Robotics claims to have installed one of the largest automated warehouses in Asia. 

The supplier of autonomous mobile robots co-operated with Yunji, an e-commerce company, to launch robotics-intensive warehouse in Kunshan, China, to establish what it calls a “super-robotic warehouse”.

Kuehne+Nagel expands its global services for BMW Group

Kuehne+Nagel and the BMW Group have expanded their partnership with two new distribution centres in Germany and Poland and dealer distribution from the two main BMW RDCs in China, all of them focus markets for the German premium class car manufacturer.

The long-lasting partnership between the BMW Group and Kuehne+Nagel can now count on 14 major locations around the globe with a consolidated presence in China.

At 70,000 sqm, the RDC in Kleinaitingen is one of the largest distribution centres Kuehne+Nagel manages for the BMW Group. It serves more than 300 dealers all over southern Germany and western Austria.

The company held a groundbreaking ceremony recently for a new warehouse to be built in the Shah Alam Industrial Park in Selangor Province.

Grocery giant Kroger and autonomous vehicle startup Nuro to pilot autonomous delivery vehicle and system

Kroger, one of the largest grocery store chains in the US, has teamed up with autonomous vehicle startup Nuro to develop shopping delivery services for customers.

Kroger and Nuro say the new partnership will “redefine the grocery customer experience for Americans” by piloting an on-road, fully autonomous delivery experience.

Incas becomes part of the SSI Schaefer Group

Italy-based industrial automation company Incas has become part of the SSI Schaefer Group. 

Established in Biella in 1981, Incas offers to its customers’ industrial automation solutions for logistics and production monitoring as well as integrated system and software solutions.
