World Economic Forum recognises Fetch Robotics as a ‘Technology Pioneer’

Fetch Robotics, a developer of warehouse robots, was selected from hundreds of candidates as a World Economic Forum “Technology Pioneer”.

Fetch Robotics is said to have made it to the selection for its contributions in the field of robotics, and for its ability to address the rapidly increasing demands for flexible warehouse automation.

ZF and e.Go to start series production of autonomous and electric ‘people mover’ vehicle

Automotive components manufacturer ZF and a startup called e.Go Mobile have agreed to start series production of an autonomous and electric “people mover” vehicle.

ZF says it is demonstrating its “multiple systems expertise” as a partner in the newly founded e.GO Moove joint venture.

Honda to supply Formula One power units to Red Bull Racing

Honda and Red Bull Group have signed an agreement whereby Honda will enter into a partnership with Red Bull Racing to supply it with power units for two years from the start of the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship.

This will be in addition to its current agreement with Red Bull Scuderia Toro Rosso.

The two Red Bull-owned teams will run identical specification Honda Power Units.

Takahiro Hachigo, president and representative director of Honda Motor, said: “Having established a good relationship with Scuderia Toro Rosso, we have decided to extend our Formula One involvement to the other team in the Red Bull family, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, as from the 2019 season. China’s National Development and Reform Commission recently announced the elimination of foreign equity restrictions on special-purpose vehicles and new energy vehicles in 2018, on commercial vehicles in 2020 and on passenger vehicles in 2022.

In addition to the opportunity to own their own manufacturing ventures, foreign automakers are no longer restricted to having only two joint ventures in China.

The 50:50 joint venture equity rule dates back to 1994. 30 automation solutions for warehouses and supply chain operations

It took a while to get going, but after many years of relatively slow progress, now, the market for logistics and supply chain robotics and automation is in good flow. 

A significant number of companies have developed systems for automating warehouse operations – both in the area of software and hardware.

Hyundai Motor agrees partnership with AI startup and signs deal with Baidu on driverless tech

Hyundai Motor has agreed a new partnership with Chinese startup DeepGlint, which provides artificial intelligence products and solutions for the security and transportation market.

Hyundai says the DeepGlint partnership will enable it to utilize AI technology in multiple layers of its business and improve product quality as well as customer experience.

MiR launches warehouse robot for heavy lifting

Mobile Industrial Robots has launched a new autonomous mobile robotic platform for heavy lifting. 

MiR already has two other similar products, called the MiR 100 and the MiR 200, with the number indicating how many kilograms it can carry.

Tata collaborates with Wabco on advanced driver assistance tech

The commercial vehicle business unit of Tata Motors is moving ahead with the development of safety-enhancing advanced driver assistance system solutions for deployment on its medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

This ambitious goal is aimed at reducing the number of road accidents, increasing vehicular as well as occupant safety, in a broad range of visibility conditions.

BMW claims to be ‘first’ global automaker to obtain autonomous driving licence in China

BMW claims to have become the first international automaker to obtain an autonomous driving road test license in China.

The German auto giant says this is “important step” on its path to autonomous driving.

BMW Group officially obtained the Shanghai Intelligent Connected Autonomous Driving Test License, issued by the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Road Test Promotion Team – consisting of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau and Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission. General public rides in autonomous vehicles

In cooperation with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International and the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA), Perrone Robotics Inc. successfully conducted the first ever publicly-accessible autonomous vehicle demonstration rides in Tampa, Florida.

PRI brought one of their fully autonomous vehicles to the Tampa Selmon Expressway to give rides to the general public over three days in May.

The demonstrations were part of “SAE Demo Day” organized by SAE to let the public experience rides in an autonomous vehicle and to understand their perceptions and attitudes about autonomous driving. Riders were surveyed before taking a ride, and then surveyed immediately afterwards.
