JMP Solutions achieves second RIA certification for robot solutions

JMP Solutions, an independent robotic systems integrator, has for the second time achieved the Certified Robot Integrator designation from the Robotic Industries Association (RIA).

The RIA Certified Robot Integrator program was established in 2012 in response to an industry need for a benchmark for evaluating technical and robot safety acumen, as well as overall integrator business excellence.

“We are thrilled to be among the best certified robotic system integrators,” said Ken McLaughlin, General Manager of JMP’s Automation & Robotics Division.

Robotiq’s Insights software updated to give remote access to the robot cell

Robotiq has launched Remote Access on its Insights monitoring software to bring technical support to the next level for Universal Robots.

Application experts can now access the teach pendant and video streams from the robot cell. They get all the live information needed to troubleshoot the application and (re)start production faster.

Robotiq CEO Samuel Bouchard said: “Remote Access is a precious ally to operators who are new to collaborative robots.

ABB launches new ceiling-mountable SCARA robot

ABB has launched its new invert-mounted IRB 910INV SCARA robot, the latest addition to its SCARA range, at the China International Industry Fair 2018 held in Shanghai.

By mounting the IRB 910INV on the ceiling, ABB says manufacturers can increase the space efficiency and flexibility of each cell and do more complex tasks even in confined spaces.

Omron releases AI predictive maintenance library

Forpheus, which Omron says is the world’s first robot table tennis tutor

Omron Corporation is launching its AI Predictive Maintenance Library on 16 October, its first Sysmac Library for theArtificial Intelligence Machine Automation Controller, which it claims is the first in the industry.

The AI Controller fuses control functions of manufacturing lines and equipment and AI processing functions at manufacturing sites in real time.

Using the AI Controller and AI Predictive Maintenance Library, the company provides maintenance services at the best time, instead of recovery services from a sudden stop and/or periodic maintenance by skilled workers.

Universal Robots develops automated pizza-making system

Universal Robots has been chosen by the French start-up EKIM to design its pizzaiolo robot: PAZZI. Created using Universal Robots’ UR10 and UR5 arms, PAZZI is capable of preparing up to 10 pizzas simultaneously from nearly five million recipe combinations, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

EKIM aims to use this project to offer an optimal and high-quality catering solution in high-traffic areas (railway stations, airports, main boulevards, shopping centres, department stores or campuses).

PAZZI, marketed by EKIM, is a turnkey “tech good food” concept, providing quality pizza based on healthy and natural ingredients, 100% autonomous, from order to delivery.

Epson to launch new industrial robot solutions at Pack Expo

Synthis T3 All-in-One SCARA robot

Epson Robots says it will be launching the Synthis T6 All-in-One SCARA robot as well as Force Guide, a high performance integrated force guidance solution at the Pack Expo event.

The company will also showcase various leading robots for factory automation in addition to leading a discussion for users new to factory automation.

Kuka to partner with Canadian university to ‘advance robotics knowledge’

Partnership to focus on industrial applications of the latest Industry 4.0 robotics systems

Humber College and Kuka Canada are entering into a five-year partnership agreement focused on bringing the latest robotics technology to Humber and working together on robotics systems integration applications.

Kuka Canada will make significant investments in robotic equipment, advanced software and contribute to curriculum development for Humber, with financial contributions each year for five years.

Humber will receive two Industry 4.0 ready collaborative robots as part of the partnership. Sick launches 3D camera for robotic belt picking applications

Sick has launched its fully-programmable TrispectorP1000 3D vision camera to enable reliable, continuous in-line product detection to be easily customised for robotic belt picking applications for the packaging industry.

The Trispector P1000 uses height-based profiling of products on moving packaging lines to ensure gentle and efficient robot picking whatever the shape or colour of the pack design, and even where there is minimal contrast or colour difference between the product and the belt background.

As a compact, stand-alone, programmable 3D camera, Sick TriSpector P1000 combines imaging, lighting and analysis in one device to facilitate on-board evaluation and processing of dimension, volume and true shape data in mm.

Omron says it will “unveil a new collaborative robot” as well as solutions in traceability, flexible manufacturing and more at the forthcoming Pack Expo event.

However, it may be that the collaborative robot Omron is talking about is the result of its partnership with Techman, on which we have reported previously.

ABB completes acquisition of intrion

ABB announced it has completed its acquisition of intrion, a privately owned company headquartered in Huizingen, close to Brussels, with approximately 120 employees and over a decade of experience in logistics automation solutions and services for the logistics, food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries.

Distribution and fulfilment centres are increasingly turning to robotic automation solutions to improve their efficiency, workplace safety and scalability to meet soaring demand.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, the market for professional service robots is expected to grow at an annual rate of 20 – 25 percent between 2018 and 2020.
