Best 5 Wind Turbine Inspection Software Platforms

December 26, 2025 by David Edwards

Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of renewable power, but as wind farms expand in size and complexity, maintaining turbine integrity becomes increasingly challenging.

Turbines operate in extreme environments, exposed to constant mechanical stress, weather erosion, salt corrosion (offshore), and lightning strikes. Each of these factors can accelerate structural wear and reduce performance if not detected early.

For operators, the problem is not just technical, it is financial and operational. Unplanned downtime, inefficient inspections, human risk during rope access, delayed repairs, and unclear asset data all contribute to lost energy production and rising maintenance costs. IEA says renewables will become ‘world’s largest electricity source by end of this year’

December 2, 2025 by David Edwards

Renewable energy is on track to become the largest source of global electricity generation by the end of 2025, overtaking coal for the first time in modern energy history, according to new analysis from the International Energy Agency.

The projection appears in the IEA’s Renewables 2025 report, published in early October, which outlines how solar and wind power are accelerating despite policy uncertainty, supply chain pressure and downward revisions in several key markets.

The report forecasts that renewable electricity generation will grow from 9,900 TWh in 2024 to 16,200 TWh in 2030 – a 60 percent increase. [Read more…] about IEA says renewables will become ‘world’s largest electricity source by end of this year’

ABB completes purchase of Siemens Gamesa’s power electronics unit to boost renewable growth

December 2, 2025 by David Edwards

Acquisition strengthens ABB’s position in renewable power conversion

ABB has completed its acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in Spain from Siemens Gamesa, originally announced last year.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The business reported annual revenues of approximately €145 million for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025.

The acquired portfolio includes power conversion products such as wind converters for doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), industrial battery energy storage systems (BESS), and utility-scale solar inverters. Honeywell to ‘double production in three years’ at Africa’s largest refinery

December 2, 2025 by David Edwards

Honeywell claims it will ‘double production in three years’ at Africa’s largest refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE has selected Honeywell to supply advanced technology, services, proprietary catalysts and equipment to help enable the refinery to process a wider range of crude and double the production capacity at Africa’s largest refinery in Lekki, Nigeria by 2028.

Dangote will leverage Honeywell’s refining and petrochemical processing solutions, which help customers reduce production costs, improve efficiency and increase throughput, to grow its refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day over the next three years.

With this expansion, Dangote will become the world’s largest petroleum refinery, strengthening in-continent fuel production, reducing reliance on imports and supporting local energy security needs. [Read more…] about Honeywell to ‘double production in three years’ at Africa’s largest refinery

The great AI power grab: Does the world have enough energy to feed AI data centers?

November 30, 2025 by David Edwards

A modern hyperscale data centre can consume as much electricity as a city of 100,000 people. That was startling enough when these facilities mainly handled streaming, cloud storage and e-commerce.

But the rapid shift toward artificial intelligence – especially generative AI and large-scale inference – is driving energy consumption into unprecedented territory.

OpenAI, Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and national governments around the world are preparing to build a new class of compute infrastructure: AI data centres, which are larger, hotter and far more power-hungry than anything the tech sector has deployed before. The Quiet Infrastructure Behind Every Smart Factory

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Smart factories often draw attention for the robots moving with precision and confidence. Anyone watching sees efficiency, speed, and quiet coordination. Behind that scene sits an entire ecosystem that many people never think about.

Robots perform with precision when the environment provides stability. A robotic arm can weld, lift, or assemble with confidence when power remains clean and signals remain uninterrupted.

The moment that the foundation weakens, accuracy drops, and production slows. Every movement depends on infrastructure that performs without hesitation. [Read more…] about The Quiet Infrastructure Behind Every Smart Factory

From Robots to Smart Grids: How Software Drives a New Era of Energy Automation

November 20, 2025 by David Edwards

From robotic inspection drones patrolling solar farms to AI-optimized wind turbines adjusting in real time, automation in renewable energy is reshaping how we build, monitor, and maintain power systems.

Global spending on energy digital transformation surpassed $70 billion in 2024, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), as utilities race to modernize infrastructure and meet growing sustainability goals.

Around the world, rising energy demand, climate goals, and the pursuit of efficiency are accelerating this shift toward smarter, more connected infrastructure. [Read more…] about From Robots to Smart Grids: How Software Drives a New Era of Energy Automation

Interview with Schneider Electric’s digital leader Peter Weckesser: ‘AI is the brain’

November 7, 2025 by David Edwards

Schneider Electric is best known as a global leader in power systems and energy management – the company that keeps the world’s infrastructure running.

Less visible, but increasingly vital to its strategy, is a growing digital and software-driven business focused on automation, IoT, and AI. At the centre of that transformation is Peter Weckesser, Schneider Electric’s chief digital officer.

Weckesser doesn’t see technologies such as AI, IoT, and digital twins as disruptive forces, but as “strategic enablers of resilience, efficiency, and competitive growth”. [Read more…] about Interview with Schneider Electric’s digital leader Peter Weckesser: ‘AI is the brain’
