Sabarot says it has ‘doubled throughput’ of its AS/RS

Sabarot, a French family business specialising in dried legumes, cereals and wild mushrooms, says it has “doubled the throughput” of its Mecalux automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) to boost its operational capacity.

Sabarot achieved the milestone at its historic centre in Chaspuzac, France. The company says it is noe “forging ahead with expansion and further enhancing its logistics capabilities” with the assistance of Mecalux, a warehouse automation specialist.

DHL and AutoStore expand partnership to further automate global warehousing

DHL Supply Chain, one of the world’s largest contract logistics companies, and AutoStore, a robotic technology company specializing in automated storage and retrieval systems, are expanding their partnership in a move set to further automated warehouse operations on global scale.

DHL Supply Chain, already involved in nine operational AutoStore warehouse projects with four more in the planning stage, is poised to become one of AutoStore’s largest 3PL clients, reinforcing their commitment to digitalization and automation.

The nine existing Systems effectively operate 800,000 bins, with the forthcoming four Systems elevating the total number of bins to a remarkable 1.2 million. In the future, DHL also intends to construct five further facilities in addition to those already in operation or planning. Large storage systems supplier Mecalux has unveiled what it describes as “a state-of-the-art technological solution” to optimise order picking: an innovative collaborative robotic picking system based on the latest artificial intelligence technology.

Mecalux’s new automated solution incorporates Siemens’ SIMATIC Robot Pick AI technology, a groundbreaking vision software that employs deep learning algorithms to significantly streamline picking in warehouses.

Boxbot raises $12 million in Series A financing round

Boxbot, the vertical automation solution that sorts and stores packages for last-mile carriers, says it has raised $12 million in its Series A funding round, led by Playground Global.

Maersk Growth (the venture arm of A.P. Moller), Toyota Ventures, Pear Ventures, and Artiman Ventures also participated in the round, which brings the company’s total funding to $29.5 million.

Industry group proposes plan to increase automation in logistics facilities

The warehousing and storage industry faces growing demand to deliver goods across the country as consumers purchase more goods online.

To address the productivity crunch and improve workers’ well-being, policymakers should establish measures to support robotic automation in logistics facilities, according to a new report from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, the leading think tank for science and technology policy.

Exotec robots ‘save warehouse workers from walking nearly 30 million kilometres’

Data published by Exotec says that, since the company’s first delivered site in 2017, its warehouse robots have covered a distance of 28,791,005 kilometres (17,889,901 miles) – equivalent to 37 return trips to the moon.

The company says its Skypod robots have logged over 5 million kilometres (3.1 million miles) at the longest drive site, with an average of 1.75 million kilometres (1.1 million miles) across Exotec’s 10 busiest sites.

To date, Exotec’s Skypod robots have completed almost 230 million cycles globally. The company defines one cycle as the act of a robot retrieving a bin, bringing it to a picking station, and returning the bin to storage.
