ABB robots increase automation in solar industry

May 17, 2021 by David Edwards

Producing a solar collector every six minutes, ABB robots make Absolicon’s solar technology a cost-competitive alternative to conventional heating.

To enable the transformation to a sustainable society and preserve resources, production of solar collector panels must be precise, highly efficient and cost effective.

To achieve this, Absolicon and ABB have developed the world’s only complete solution for the mass production of concentrated solar collectors, in Absolicon’s factory in Härnösand, Sweden. [Read more…] about ABB robots increase automation in solar industry

Estonian company launches ‘first’ autonomous bus in Greece

November 17, 2020 by David Edwards

An autonomous bus named “Iseauto” has started its work in Greece, in the city of Lamia. The bus has been developed in Estonia and offers a full-scale autonomous service that was first piloted in the summer in Tallinn, in Ülemiste City.

For the first time in Greek history, a fully street-legal autonomous vehicle is operational in the context of an autonomous public transport pilot project led by Estonians.

The autonomous minibus developed by AuveTech in Estonia is the first “4th category” – or Level 4 – autonomous vehicle that has been pigeonholed “street-legal” in Greece. [Read more…] about Estonian company launches ‘first’ autonomous bus in Greece

Michigan university scientists’ new solar panels could eventually lead to self-powering skyscrapers

August 20, 2020 by David Edwards

Imagine if all the glass we see on the sides of skyscrapers and other buildings were actually solar cells in disguise, collecting energy from the sun and helping to power the building and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

That is the dream of many scientists who are working on the technology. Essentially, they want to replace the silicon material that glass is made out of with material that is more suitable for capturing solar energy.

While green energy has made great strides in recent years – with Germans as a nation recently using more electricity from alternative sources than traditional gas- and oil-based power – there’s still a long way to go. Hyundai launches first car with solar roof charging system

August 7, 2019 by Mai Tao

Hyundai Motor is launching its first car with a solar roof charging system.

The automaker says the “groundbreaking eco-friendly technology” will provide vehicles with additional electrical power, as well as increasing fuel efficiency and driving range.

Hyundai Motor’s solar roof charging system makes its debut on the New Sonata Hybrid. The system supports the vehicle’s electric power source, improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. [Read more…] about Hyundai launches first car with solar roof charging system

NEDO, Sharp, and Toyota to begin public road trials of electrified vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries

July 5, 2019 by Mai Tao

NEDO, Sharp Corporation, and Toyota Motor plan to commence public road trials of electrified vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries later this month.

The trials aim to assess the effectiveness of improvements in cruising range and fuel efficiency of electrified vehicles equipped with high-efficiency solar batteries.

To facilitate the execution of this trial, Sharp modularized its world-class, high-efficiency solar battery cells (conversion efficiency of 34 percent+), previously developed for a NEDO-led project, to create an onboard solar battery panel. Toyota introduces station for the production and supply of hydrogen from renewable energy

April 25, 2019 by Anna

Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has newly introduced ‘SimpleFuel’ to its Motomachi Plant in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

SimpleFuel is a small water electrolysis-based machine for hydrogen generation and filling that can produce, store, and supply hydrogen by making use of electricity generated from solar power.

It uses electricity from solar panels at the plant site to produce low-carbon hydrogen from the electrolysis of water, which is then supplied to fuel-cell (FC) forklifts after it is compressed and pressurised.

LG solar panels on show as part of ‘New American Remodel’ home

March 1, 2019 by Anna

Advanced solar panels from LG were part of The New American Remodel (TNAR), the official show home of the 2019 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas in February.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) named LG Electronics USA official partner for the “net zero” TNAR home in the Nevada desert.

The New American Remodel exemplifies how even the most basic house can be transformed into a high-performance home when integrating today’s building practices that enhance energy efficiency, indoor-air quality, safety and universal design.

ABB installs solar power at its factory in Vietnam

September 11, 2018 by Anna

ABB recently inaugurated a 75 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) installation at its high voltage and distribution solutions factory in BacNinh province in Vietnam.

The electricity generated is used to power a waste water treatment system, a canteen serving more than 200 people and part of the factory’s lighting.

Earlier this year, ABB also deployed its own smart technologies to commission the wastewater plant at the factory premises. Now the factory has an even lower impact on the surrounding environment, by running on clean energy.
