Pony.ai and SAIC AI Lab to develop fully driverless EV robotaxi

Pony.ai, a leading global autonomous driving technology company, is collaborating with SAIC AI Lab, a division of SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), China’s largest auto manufacturer, to jointly explore and advance driverless technology.

Together with SAIC AI Lab, Pony.ai launched a concept vehicle based on the SAIC Marvel R model and will build out a fleet of autonomous vehicles equipped with Pony.ai’s L4-level driverless solutions, over time.

The concept car is equipped with the latest generation of Pony.ai technology, which utilizes 17 integrated automotive-grade sensors to create a 360-degree visual range covering 200 meters, eliminating blind spots around the vehicle. SAIC unveils China’s ‘first’ Level 4 robotic taxi platform

Chinese carmaker SAIC Motor has officially started the operation of its SAIC Mobility Robotaxi, claiming it to be China’s first Level 4 self-driving platform.

SAIC says its “Robotaxi” employs “superior resources” – from SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company, SAIC Motor AI Lab, autonomous driving technology company Momenta, and its ride-hailing service platform SAIC Mobility – to create a data-driven ecosystem featuring continuing evolution in an effort to explore the application of Level 4 self-driving technology in urban mobility scenarios.

There is a lack of clarity about the term “robotaxi”. So far, most companies have used it as a generic term to mean robotic taxi. None of them has yet trademarked the actual word. SAIC showcases first autonomous truck at Shanghai port

A 5G-based “intelligent” – meaning autonomous – heavy duty truck developed by Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor made its debut at Shanghai Yangshan Deepwater Port, the largest cargo port in the world.

The demonstration was conducted as part of SAIC exhibition at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which took place in Shanghai, China recently.

World’s largest hydrogen fuelling station launched in Shanghai

SAIC Motor and Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park have jointly launched a hydrogen fuel cell car refuelling station, which is currently the largest and highest-level of its kind in the world.

The Chinese auto maker has developed three types of new energy vehicles – electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs)– and mastered several FCV core technologies.

The company has participated in the formulation of 15 national standards on FCV and is the first Chinese auto maker to have achieved the commercial application of hydrogen fuel cell in passenger cars and commercial cars.

First MG cars roll out of SAIC Motor’s Indian base

SAIC Motor’s vehicle production base in India, the company’s third overseas automobile manufacturing base, has started operation.

The first MG car to leave the assembly line was also the first internet car to be seen in the Indian market.

SAIC Motor has developed a whole overseas auto industrial chain which integrates innovation and R&D centres, manufacturing bases, marketing centres, supply centres and financial companies. Its vehicle sales volume has broken the threshold of 10,000 in many countries.

ABB to install 300 painting robots at leading Chinese automaker’s facility

ABB has signed a formal agreement to install 300 painting robots at a leading Chinese automaker’s facility.

The agreement with SAIC Volkswagen is to provide robotics painting solutions for the first New Energy Vehicle factory of the Volkswagen Group based on the Modular Electric Driver Kit, an automotive platform specifically designed for the mass production of electric vehicles.

SAIC Motor builds Chinese auto industry’s first AI lab

The SAIC Motor Artificial Intelligent Laboratory, the first one of its kind in China’s auto industry, has been opened in Shanghai.

Based on SAIC Motor’s cloud computing and big data platforms, the newly established lab is expected to develop AI applications and offer advanced AI solutions to promote the deep integration of internet technology and the auto industry, and improve the Group’s innovation capacity and core competitiveness.

The SAIC Motor AI Lab, as an important part of the Group’s core competitiveness, will make full use of the Group’s various application scenarios to focus on intelligent travel, intelligent manufacturing and intelligent driving with the aim of offering technological support to its new targets: electrification, intelligent networking, sharing and internationalisation.

Infineon and SAIC set up joint venture for China electric car market

SAIC Motor and Infineon Technologies are establishing a joint venture to manufacture power modules for the dynamically developing electric vehicle market in China.

SAIC Motor holds a stake of 51 percent of the JV, SIAPM (SAIC Infineon Automotive Power Modules (Shanghai) Co, Ltd., and Infineon 49 percent, respectively.

Headquartered in Shanghai; its new manufacturing facility is in Infineon’s site expansion in Wuxi. Volume production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2018.
