The Pros and Cons of the Amazon Dash Smart Shelf

The number of online shoppers is growing at a fast pace. In the US, over 60 percent of people have shopped online at least once. In the Netherlands, this number stands at 79 percent and in the UK at a whopping 87 percent, reports the portal ADVIESJAGERS.

The Amazon Dash Smart Shelf feeds into this trend. The concept behind the gadget is as simple as it is ingenious — or so it would seem. The scale can be placed under certain items in the kitchen — both edibles and non-edibles — and set up to determine when you are running out of the product.

Since the scale is connected to the internet, it automatically reorders the item in question so you never run out of supplies. Online retailer Tobi installs inVia Robotics technology in its Reno warehouse

Online fashion retailer Tobi has installed robots in its supply chain to speed up the processing of orders.

inVia Robotics, the provider of warehouse automation solutions supplying Tobi, says the e-commerce company has chosen its picker robots and its cloud-based Robotics-as-a-Service management system to optimize fulfillment in its warehouse in Reno, Nevada, US.

UPS using automation to move more parcels with same number of people, says boss

The chief executive of logistics giant UPS says the company is using automation technologies to move a greater number of parcels with the same number of people. 

In comments to Yahoo Finance, UPS CEO David Abney says: “Last year we hired about the same number of people and we’re doing it this year with an extra 5 per cent of packages and it is because of automation.”
