100,000 Husqvarna robots prepare to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to NASA’s Mars robot

More than 100,000 Husqvarna robots are preparing to sing the traditional “Happy Birthday” song to NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover robot in the weirdest birthday party ever.

Husqvarna says its robots will shout at the top of their voices – or whatever it is they use to communicate – from Earth to Mars, which is a distance of more than 174 million km, in an effort to get through to the “loneliest robot in the universe”, according to the company.

RC Mowers showcases new customers for its remote-operated robotic mowers

RC Mowers, makers of remote-operated robotic mowers, is showcasing the new customers who are using its industrial mowers for everything from minimizing safety risks to expanding the capabilities of their firms and hiring better employees.

The company’s remote-operated robotic mowers are best known for mowing steep slopes, hazardous terrain, around retention ponds and levees, and through thick brush.

Velodyne to provide its lidar sensors to Renu Robotics

Velodyne Lidar has reached a multi-year agreement to provide its Puck lidar sensors to Renu Robotics, an industry leader in autonomous vegetation management systems.

Renu Robotics’ Renubot, a fully autonomous, all-electric mower, helps solar and energy facilities cut costs, time and carbon emissions, while maintaining the grounds for maximum performance of the facility.

Renu Robotics selected the Puck after a competitive product review. The company found that Velodyne’s Puck offered superior quality, reliability and performance, including significantly less system interference for optimal positional accuracy. Scythe Robotics launches with $18.6 million funding to ‘transform commercial landscaping with autonomous mower’

Scythe Robotics, a builder of commercial-grade autonomous robotic solutions for the landscaping industry, has emerged from stealth with its first offering: an all-electric, fully autonomous mower, designed completely in-house to be “the most advanced, reliable, and sustainable commercial-grade mower in the industry”.

Scythe has also completed its $13.8 million in Series A funding led by Inspired Capital with participation from existing investors True Ventures, Zigg Capital, and Lemnos, bringing the company’s total funding to $18.6 million.

The new investment will be used to grow the company’s existing operations in Texas, Florida and Colorado, expand with new customers, and accelerate development of further products to revolutionize how commercial landscape contractors care for outdoor environments. Graze unveils solar-powered autonomous commercial lawn mower

Startup company Graze has unveiled a new solar-powered autonomous commercial lawn mower, which it plans to launch by 2021.

The company says has now expanded the design to increase efficiency and maintenance speed for mid-to-large sized commercial lawns, enhance cutting blades to perfect trim precision, add new sensor capabilities to increase safety, improve GPS based mapping and computer vision, while optimizing intelligent and applicable insights through advanced machine learning capabilities.

Analyst reports have found landscaping services in the US generated $101.7 billion in revenue in 2020, while commercial landscaping services (maintenance and general services) have been projected to range between 40 and 60 percent of the overall landscaping service industry in the US. The robotic lawn mower market is projected to grow from the current $533 million to $1,262 million by 2025 at annual growth rates of around 13 percent, according to a new report by ResearchAndMarkets.com.

Increase in labor cost, safety concerns over traditional lawn mowers, and need for noise-free operation are some of the major factors that will drive the robotic lawn mower market.

Europe is expected to be the largest as well as fastest growing robotic lawn mower market during the forecasted period.

Telit and Husqvarna collaborate on robots for urban park sustainability program

Telit, a provider of internet of things technologies, is supplying appliance maker Husqvarna with a wireless sensor device for its city robotic mower pilot program. 

The sensor was co-developed by Telit and Wireless System Integration, a Sweden-based design house developing wireless products and systems.
