Understanding machine vision in automation

July 14, 2024 by David Edwards

Article contributed by Wauseon Machine

Machine vision has become an integral component of automated manufacturing processes. In older automated manufacturing lines, less efficient methods were used to corral a product part down a conveyor and into a precise position for fixation.

This more manual process often required additional hardware to corral pieces down the assembly line in the proper direction or would require pre-fixturing a part with manual labor.

This not only was more time intensive but also made manufacturing processes more susceptible to alignment errors.

Tips for Maintenance of CNC Lathe Machines

March 21, 2024 by David Edwards

Modern-day manufacturing projects consist of various phases, from woodturning to metalworking, thermal spraying, metal spinning, glassworking, parts reclamation, and so on. In these phases, CNC lathe machines are the ideal tools to ensure efficiency in every manufacturing project.

These machines secure the workpiece in place, making its rotation via the main spindle while implementing cutting tool operations across various axes to shape the material. Despite their precision, repeatability, and accuracy, CNC lathe machines can still face breakdowns, potentially leading to prolonged downtimes.

If not addressed promptly, such downtimes can significantly impact productivity and production. Hence, it’s important to practice regular and timely CNC lathe machine maintenance to avoid these challenges. [Read more…] about Tips for Maintenance of CNC Lathe Machines

The digital crystal ball: Predicting the next move forward for sales intelligence

January 17, 2024 by David Edwards

In a letter to French physicist Jean-Baptiste Le Roy, in 1789, Benjamin Franklin wrote (of the new American states): “Our new Constitution is now established and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”

But in a modern context, it would be safe to paraphrase Franklin and update his assertion to “nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and the advancement of artificial intelligence”.

AI allows us such a panoptic view of modern Big Data business analytics, which is often referred to as “business intelligence”, that such BI can now be further quantified into subdivisions. [Read more…] about The digital crystal ball: Predicting the next move forward for sales intelligence
