The greatest mystery in history: Ancient monuments and lost civilisations

January 14, 2025 by David Edwards

Ancient monuments such as the pyramids of Egypt, Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, the Nazca Lines of Peru, and countless others scattered across the globe, hold mysteries that mainstream archaeology has yet to definitively explain.

These structures are united by their advanced construction techniques, astronomical alignments, and enigmatic purposes.

Alternative researchers, such as Graham Hancock, Eric Von Däniken, and Michael Tellinger, suggest these megalithic marvels may be evidence of a lost, highly advanced civilisation, or even the handiwork of extraterrestrial visitors. Japanese researchers develop ‘innovative, low-cost’ UAV for inspecting transmission lines

January 13, 2024 by Mark Allinson

The novel approach avoids costly and sophisticated equipment, while also enabling automated close-range inspection of transmission lines

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are now widely used for remote inspection of electrical transmission lines, but capturing detailed information over long distances poses challenges.

Additionally, sophisticated equipment is needed due to magnetic field interferences, increasing costs. Now, a team of researchers has introduced an innovative low-cost UAV platform.

Using specialized algorithms, it addresses the limitations of affordable equipment, facilitating close-range inspections. The proposed system paves the way for the widespread adoption of automated inspection systems. Soft Robotics using Nvidia simulation technology to develop its gripping system

February 16, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Soft Robotics has applied Nvidia Isaac Sim’s synthetic data to food processing automation in efforts to improve safety and increase production.

Developers have been striving to close the gap on robotic gripping for the past several years, pursuing applications for multibillion-dollar industries. Securely gripping and transferring fast-moving items on conveyor belts holds vast promise for businesses.

Soft Robotics, a Bedford, Massachusetts startup, is harnessing Nvidia Isaac Sim to help close the sim to real gap for a handful of robotic gripping applications. One area is perfecting gripping for pick and placement of foods for packaging. [Read more…] about Soft Robotics using Nvidia simulation technology to develop its gripping system

Forvia increases logistics productivity with fleet of MiR robots

February 14, 2023 by David Edwards

Forvia, a top-tier automotive technology supplier, says it has increased its logistics productivity, strengthened stability of production processes and decreased safety risks with a fleet of robots robots from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).

The return of investment from the 14 autonomous mobile robots working in the Faurecia Clean Mobility plant in Písek, Czech Republic was less than two years.

Seven of Forvia’s heavy duty MiR robots, mainly MiR600s, work in the area of finished goods, bringing empty pallets to the assembly lines and picking up full pallets to transport to the logistics area. [Read more…] about Forvia increases logistics productivity with fleet of MiR robots

BMW unveils first battery cell coating line at Leipzig factory

February 7, 2023 by David Edwards

BMW Group Plant Leipzig’s first cell coating line has gone into series operation as e-component production at the site continues to gain momentum.

By 2024 the two existing module assembly lines will be complemented by a third, as well as four more cell coating lines and two more high-voltage battery assembly lines. The four coating lines will enter series operation during the course of this year at roughly two-month intervals.

Markus Fallböhmer, head of battery production at the BMW Group, says: “From 2024 our plant here in Leipzig will be able to run the entire process chain for high-voltage battery production. [Read more…] about BMW unveils first battery cell coating line at Leipzig factory

Forvia increases logistics productivity with fleet of MiR robots

January 9, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Forvia, an automotive technology company, says it has increased its logistics productivity, strengthened stability of production processes and decreased safety risks with a fleet of robots from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).

The return of investment from the 14 autonomous mobile robots (AMR) working in the Faurecia Clean Mobility plant in Písek, Czech Republic, was less than two years.

Seven of Forvia’s heavy duty MiR robots, mainly MiR600s, work in finished goods, bringing empty pallets to the assembly lines and picking up full pallets to transport to the logistics area. The second area, where MiR250 robots operate, moves components from the warehouse to assembly lines. The robots in the plant work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, covering all three operation shifts. Outrider equips autonomous trucks with deep-learning driven robotic arms

December 23, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Outrider, the startup developing autonomous yard operations for logistics hubs, has releaseed TrailerConnect – a patented technology that robotically attaches the needed brake and electric lines from yard trucks to any of the over 10 million trailers and chassis circulating globally.

A deep-learning based technology, TrailerConnect is now available as part of the Outrider System, which automates distribution yards for large, logistics-dependent enterprises.

In distribution yards around the globe, yard trucks transition semi-trailers from dock doors to parking spots to public roads. To move these trailers, truck drivers connect pressurized brake lines to semi-trailers to release the parking brake and move the trailers around the yard – a hazardous manual task that requires the driver to get in and out of the cab constantly. Automotive Cells chooses Comau to build battery production lines

October 8, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Comau has been selected by Automotive Cells Company – or ACC, a joint venture between Stellantis, TotalEnergies/Saft and Mercedes-Benz – to design and develop a “highly integrated” battery module production line for its future Gigafactory in Billy-Bercalu Douvrain, in the north of France.

With the projected capacity to ultimately ramp up to 40 GWh, ACC is set to become a European leader in enabling cleaner, efficient mobility for all. Under the terms of the agreement, Comau will supply ACC with the expertise and equipment needed to automate manufacturing of the next-generation EV batteries.

Featuring the inherent flexibility to handle both 8- and 16-cell modules, the Comau-designed lines will allow ACC to produce up to 8 Gigawatt hours (GWh) annually by the end of 2024. [Read more…] about Automotive Cells chooses Comau to build battery production lines
