Hitachi and DFKI develop sensor suit to improve workplace safety

March 20, 2019 by Mai Tao

hitachi dfki image

Hitachi and DFKI have jointly developed a “sensor suit” which uses artificial intelligence to quantify the physical load and stress on manual workers.

Hitachi and DFKI – short for the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence – say the AI-based suit can provide “effective feedback on the movement of each body part”.

This AI technology performs real-time recognition and quantification of a physical load exerted on a worker’s body during work by using the motion data of each body part obtained through sensors in wearable devices.  [Read more…] about Hitachi and DFKI develop sensor suit to improve workplace safety

Sweden: Leading the pack in digitization and smart industry

February 25, 2019 by David Edwards

skype

A closer look at this year’s partner country for Hannover Messe

Spotify, Klarna, Skype and iZettle are all big names in the digital world. And they have one thing in common: they are all from Sweden – Stockholm, the country’s capital, to be precise.

Two of the world’s biggest computer games, Minecraft (Mojang) and Candy Crush (King), where also developed in Stockholm. Ericsson, world leader of telecommunication systems was founded for more than 100 years ago.

All this undoubtedly makes Sweden’s capital one of the world’s major technology hotspots. In fact, Stockholm is widely regarded as one of the world’s biggest “unicorn factories” and ranks second only to Silicon Valley when it comes to the number of local startups with a market capitalization of over one billion US dollars.  [Read more…] about Sweden: Leading the pack in digitization and smart industry

Hannover Messe and CeMAT review: Raving with the machines

April 27, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

The machines are not out to get us, claims Deutsche Messe boss

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto set the tone on day one of the Hannover Messe/CeMAT double-header. Asked to shake hands with a robot, they both went for the more casual fist bump – a symbol for the relaxed, natural interaction of humans with digitization, robots and machine learning. (See main picture.)

Dr Jochen Köckler, chairman of the managing board at Deutsche Messe, at the close of Hannover Messe/CeMAT, said: “Technology is not about competing with us humans – it’s about assisting us. That is the core message conveyed by this trade fair, which has again underscored Hannover’s reputation as a global hotspot for the digital transformation of industry.

“The focus here has clearly been on the human element: We’re the ones making the decisions and setting the course. The interaction of humans with machines and IT adds up to a huge competitive gain across manufacturing, logistics and the energy industry.” [Read more…] about Hannover Messe and CeMAT review: Raving with the machines
