Google DeepMind releases new world model with ‘vast space’ to train robots and autonomous systems

August 6, 2025 by David Edwards

Google DeepMind has unveiled Genie 3, the latest version of its generative world model, describing it as a step forward in creating more intelligent and adaptable simulation environments – including those for robotics applications.

Although the company’s announcement focuses heavily on advancements in video prediction and general AI learning, Genie 3 has direct relevance for robotics developers who rely on high-fidelity, physics-aware simulation systems to train and test autonomous systems.

Described as a “world model,” Genie 3 can generate realistic interactive environments directly from a single image prompt and a short textual description, such as “driving down a highway at sunset” or “walking in a rainy city”. Amazon marks deployment of 1 millionth robot and unveils new AI foundation model for its robots

July 1, 2025 by Sam Francis

Amazon Robotics has reached two major milestones in its robotics and AI operations: the deployment of its one millionth robot and the launch of a new generative AI foundation model designed to optimize its global fleet of warehouse robots.

The new AI model, called DeepFleet, is expected to improve robot travel efficiency by 10 percent across Amazon’s fulfillment network, which spans more than 300 facilities worldwide. The company says the technology will support faster customer deliveries and reduce operational costs.

“Think of DeepFleet as an intelligent traffic system for our robotic fleet,” writes Scott Dresser, vice president of Amazon Robotics, in a blog post on one of the company’s websites. “It optimizes how robots move within our facilities, reducing congestion and improving efficiency.” [Read more…] about Amazon marks deployment of 1 millionth robot and unveils new AI foundation model for its robots

MIT research: Using generative AI to help robots jump higher and land better

June 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

By Alex Shipps, digital strategy coordinator, MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

Diffusion models like OpenAI’s DALL-E are becoming increasingly useful in helping brainstorm new designs.

Humans can prompt these systems to generate an image, create a video, or refine a blueprint, and come back with ideas they hadn’t considered before.

But did you know that generative artificial intelligence (AI) models are also making headway in creating working robots? Recent diffusion-based approaches have generated structures and the systems that control them from scratch. Bosch to use generative AI in manufacturing

February 14, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Bosch is piloting generative AI and foundation models in manufacturing. In initial projects in two Bosch plants in Germany, generative AI creates synthetic images in order to develop and scale AI solutions for optical inspection and optimize existing AI models.

Bosch expects that this will reduce the time needed for planning, launching, and ramping up AI applications “from the current six to 12 months to just a few weeks”. Following successful piloting, this service for generating synthetic data is to be offered to all Bosch locations.

There are sound economic reasons for this move: depending on the size of the plant and type of production, artificial intelligence can be used to achieve productivity gains and six- to seven-figure cost savings – per year and plant. [Read more…] about Bosch to use generative AI in manufacturing
