SVV claims China’s first dedicated low-volume manufacturing facility

September 25, 2020 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Product development and engineering company Shenzen Valley Ventures (SVV) says its new manufacturing facility in China is its “first tier-1 facility” in the country. (See 3D tour of the facility.)

Located on the 9th floor of a skyscraper, SVV says it is “the most impressionable manufacturing facility in the Greater Bay Area’s Shenzhen”.

The platform is designed solely to accommodate the low-volume production needs of complex business-to-business devices, something which other manufacturers are unable to support, at least at a tier-1 level.  [Read more…] about SVV claims China’s first dedicated low-volume manufacturing facility

Opinion: Innovation is in need of better platforms to support its growth

July 2, 2020 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

By Frederick Bravey, business development manager, SVV

Innovation is adapting faster with no signs of slowing down. In this fast-paced environment, innovation is in need of better platforms to support its growth. Corporations today are facing extensive challenges in getting new innovative ideas to market.

According to Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christensen, there are over 30,000 new products introduced every year, and 95 percent fail, resulting in huge amounts of time wasted on failed concepts.

However, corporations are now looking toward new ways to greatly reduce their lead time as well as expanding their horizons beyond their current business models. [Read more…] about Opinion: Innovation is in need of better platforms to support its growth

Report: Retailers must ‘go the extra mile’ on delivery

A new study from the Capgemini Research Institute has highlighted that retailer investment in “last mile” delivery – the final leg of the online purchase journey – is needed in order to uncover new revenue streams.

The report found that 97% of organisations believe that current last-mile delivery models are not sustainable for all locations, and that free shipping costs cannot be maintained unless delivery costs are reduced through automation.

“The Last-Mile Delivery Challenge: Giving retail and consumer product customers a superior delivery experience without impacting profitability,” study surveyed over 2,870 consumers in addition to 500 supply chain executives, and entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

Capgemini study reveals barriers to electric car adoption in US

December 5, 2018 by Anna

Capgemini has released a study showing that battery capacity and availability of charging stations for electric cars are the two biggest concerns of U.S. consumers that might deter purchases.

According to Capgemini’s Cars Online Trends Study, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and retailers must collaborate to address these and other concerns to meet governmental expectations, increase electric car sales and develop new services for consumers.

“OEM investment in electric cars has led to exciting technological breakthroughs and the promise of reduced emissions, yet so far sales figures have been lower than initially predicted,” said Mathew Desmond, Principal Automotive Domain Specialist at Capgemini.

Robotics and IoT are a ‘fundamental threat’ to insurance companies, says Capgemini

Veniam already has customers for its autonomous vehicle networking technology, which utilises Internet of Things

Technology consultancy firm Capgemini claims the insurance industry is facing a “fundamental threat” in the form of the combined forces unleashed by robotics and the internet of things (IoT).

In a recent study – World Insurance Report 2016 – into the growing trend of using robotic process automation for office administration procedures, as well as such things as cars equipped with telemetry devices which record every driving action, Capgemini found that expectations are changing within customers it calls “Gen Y” – those aged between 15 and 34. One example of a new company which has combined IoT and telemetry in vehicles is Veniam.

John Mullen, corporate vice president and global insurance leader for Capgemini, says: “By not providing adequate engagement for digitally-advanced customers, carriers [companies] run the risk of pushing them toward a growing population of market entrants and non-traditional technology-driven competitors.

“Gen Y is clearly indicating that they do business differently and those insurers who respond to them on their terms will have a clear competitive advantage.”  [Read more…] about Robotics and IoT are a ‘fundamental threat’ to insurance companies, says Capgemini
