Bosch and Nio sign strategic partnership agreement

August 6, 2018 by Anna

The Bosch Group and electric vehicle company Nio signed a strategic cooperation agreement focused on sensor technology, automated driving, electric motor controls, and intelligent transport systems.

The signing ceremony took place in Berlin in the presence of German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

Nio began delivering its 7-seat high-performance electric sports utility vehicle, ES8, to its users in China in June.

The vehicle contains key components from Bosch, such as driver assistance systems, control units, sensors and the iBooster electromechanical brake booster. The components will be further developed for Nio’s future models.

Bosch plans to sell its packaging business

July 6, 2018 by Anna

Bosch has decided to look for a buyer for its packaging machinery business (PA), more specifically the pharmaceuticals and food units of the Packaging Technology division.

The company said that it had not identified any sufficiently relevant synergy effects in terms of business or technology that might offer the division prospects for the future within Bosch and that packaging technology was not part of the group’s core business.

PA is involved in project business relating to specialised areas of the packaging industry. The company also operates in a competitive environment in which the players are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and who are therefore at a structural advantage.

German industrial giant has started construction on a billion-dollar semiconductor manufacturing facility – or, in Bosch’s words, a “factory of the future” in Dresden, Germany.

The company said that the foundation stone laid recently in Dresden is “a key milestone” in the construction of the Bosch Group’s “state-of-the-art” wafer fabrication facility.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2019, when installation of the production machinery will start.  [Read more…] about Bosch lays foundation stone for billion-dollar ‘factory of the future’

Alien farming technology: A glimpse into the future of automated agriculture

June 13, 2018 by Sam Francis

agriculture cnh autonomous tractor

Farming, as a human activity, is thought to be the basis for civilisations and societies dating back 15,000 years, possibly even further back if you believe the ancient alien astronaut theory.

In fact, ancient alien astronauts from the Anunnaki race are thought to have introduced Earthlings to farming in the first place, and gifted humans the plough. But that’s a whole other story.

Whatever its age, farming is still a globally widespread activity today. Indeed, until around 50 years ago, the vast majority of countries around the world were agrarian, meaning their economies and societies were reliant on the income generated by the agricultural sector – not just the food produced by it.

Even today, the largest economy in the world – the US – is also the world’s largest exporter of food.  [Read more…] about Alien farming technology: A glimpse into the future of automated agriculture

This is what stress-free parking will look like in the future: pull up, step out of the car, pull out your smartphone, and use an app to tell your car to go park.

This future will arrive in Aachen before the year is out, when the new parking garage for the production engineering cluster on the RWTH Aachen campus, built by Immofinanz in 2018, is equipped with Bosch automated valet parking.

Now Bosch and the Aachen-based automaker e.Go have agreed to collaborate on this.  [Read more…] about Smart cities: Bosch and e.Go bring free automated parking to Aachen, Germany

Hannover Messe: Bosch takes lead with 5G connectivity for industry and invests $100 million in new ‘smart factory’ in Mexico

April 27, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

Industrial giant Bosch is taking the lead in 5G connectivity in partnership with Nokia.

The two companies have been demonstrating a number of 5G projects at Hannover Messe, probably among the first of their kind in the industrial sector.

One of the experts working on the project explained that “most of the industry is cabled”, meaning that robots and other machines, whether they are mobile or stationary, tend to be connected via cables, such as Ethernet, for example. Bosch expands its research and technology centre in California

April 10, 2018 by Anna

Bosch has moved to a larger location in Silicon Valley, opening a new 36m-euro Research and Technology Center (RTC) in Sunnyvale. The RTC was previously located in Palo Alto, roughly 15 kilometres to the west.

“We have had a presence here for nearly 20 years. The new offices will help us keep our finger on the pulse of Silicon Valley, thanks also to our excellent connections to the local research community and local businesses,” said Mike Mansuetti, president of Bosch in North America.

The facilities bring together 200 associates under one roof for the first time. Covering almost 10,000 square meters, the new location offers 40 percent more space in total and room for up to 300 associates.

Bosch analysis: Driver assistance systems continue their strong advance

March 13, 2018 by Anna

bosch park assist

People buying new cars today in Germany and Europe are placing more and more value on having electronic assistants on board, says Bosch, based on analysis carried out on new registration statistics for 2016.

“There is a clear trend: it will soon be just as natural to have cars fitted with driver assistance systems as it is with a radio and ESP,” says Bosch board of management member Dr Dirk Hoheisel.

Parking and lane assist systems, as well as emergency braking systems are becoming increasingly popular, with 62 percent of new passenger cars registered in Germany in 2016 being equipped with some kind of parking assistance system – ranging from parking beepers to automatic parking assistants.
