Dexterity introduces robotic print and apply palletizer

January 7, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Dexterity, a provider of AI systems for warehouse robots, has launched its Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer.

Targeting operations in third-party logistics (3PL), retail, and consumer packaged goods (CPG) that require case-level labeling, Dexterity’s Robotic Print and Apply Palletizer provides a one-robot workflow to ensure Amazon Routing, SSCC, or SKU barcodes are applied to each case in a pallet before shipment.

With the adoption of new Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit (FNSKU) and other labeling requirements in the past year, shippers have needed to add another intensively manual process to their workflows. [Read more…] about Dexterity introduces robotic print and apply palletizer

Aerobotix and FerRobotics to showcase new robotic taping kit at Automate 2023

May 16, 2023 by David Edwards

Aerobotix and FerRobotics, two robotics companies based in the US and Austria respectively, will exhibit their new Active Taping Kit (ATK) tool at the Automate Show in Detroit, Michigan, from May 22-25. This will be the first public demonstration of the ATK in North America.

Aerobotix and FerRobotics partnered on the ATK in response to aerospace industry demand for an automated tool for precision application of masking tape. Collaboration between engineers from the two companies led to the development of a revolutionary End of Arm Tooling (EOAT) after months of prototypes and testing.

FerRobotics’ patented Active Compliant Technology (ACT) enables a robot to use varying force when applying tape to an aircraft. The ATK allows for smooth masking on parts varying in shape, putting down perfectly straight tape lines where the customer needs them.   [Read more…] about Aerobotix and FerRobotics to showcase new robotic taping kit at Automate 2023

A legged robotic system for playing soccer on various terrains

April 4, 2023 by Mark Allinson

The new system enables a quadruped robot to dribble a soccer ball on landscapes such as sand, gravel, mud, and snow, using reinforcement learning to adapt to varying ball dynamics

If you’ve ever played soccer with a robot, it’s a familiar feeling. Sun glistens down on your face as the smell of grass permeates the air. You look around. A four-legged robot is hustling towards you, dribbling with determination.

While not a common occurrence for many, nor anything close to a well-matched adversary to Lionel Messi, it’s an impressive in-the-wild dribbling system nonetheless.

Researchers from MIT’s Improbable Artificial Intelligence Lab, part of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory developed a legged robotic system that can dribble a soccer ball under the same conditions as humans. How to Land a Robot-Proof Job

May 30, 2022 by David Edwards

What do burger flippers, call center workers, and many car wash workers have in common?

Over the past decade, a vast majority of their jobs have been taken over by robots. In fact, the more repetitive, routine, and simple a task is, the more susceptible that job is to takeover by an automated device.

Whether you call a machine that makes fast-food items on order at a rapid pace a robot or an automated food preparation device doesn’t matter. [Read more…] about How to Land a Robot-Proof Job

Cambridge Consultants unveils ‘dexterous robot with the human touch’

May 16, 2019 by David Edwards

Technology research and development company Cambridge Consultants has unveiled what it describes as a “dexterous robot with the human touch”. (See video below.)

Breakthrough innovation specialist Cambridge Consultants has developed Hank, a robot with flexible robotic fingers inspired by the human hand.

Hank uses a pioneering sensory system embedded in its pneumatic fingers, providing a sophisticated sense of touch and slip, meaning it can emulate the human ability to hold and grip delicate objects using just the right amount of pressure.
