Qatar Free Zones Authority and the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum collaborate to foster innovation in electric vehicles technology

The Autonomous e-Mobility Forum (AEMOB) has agreed a strategic collaboration with the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) with the intention to advance the conversation on autonomous e-mobility on a global scale.

Formally announced in Doha, Qatar, AEMOB and QFZ said their initiative will serve as “a pioneering platform for international stakeholders in the realm of driverless e-mobility”.

This collaboration represents a convergence of expertise and vision, harnessing QFZ’s unique position in facilitating trade and investment to propel the e-mobility ecosystem forward, and leveraging the strategic advantages of Qatar’s free zones to catalyze the development and deployment of next-generation e-mobility technologies.

SKA Robotics opens new office in Hellbender HQ

SKA Robotics has opened a new office inside Hellbender’s Harmarville, Pennsylvania headquarters as part of a larger strategic partnership.

The close collaboration means that customers can now go from idea to working prototype to production-volume manufacturing, all under one roof, with teams that routinely and deeply partner to solve the most complex robotics challenges.

AutoFlight delivers first electric air taxi to customer in Japan

AutoFlight has achieved what it describes as “a significant milestone” by officially delivering its first Prosperity aircraft to a customer in Japan, marking the world’s inaugural delivery of a civilian ton-class eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.

The five-seater Prosperity aircraft was handed over to the customer, a pioneering Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operator in Japan.

The operator, to be identified in due course, is currently developing plans for demonstration eVTOL flights at the 2025 Osaka World Expo, as well as a wider AAM rollout in Japan.

Nala Robotics and Re-Up partner to develop AI-powered robotic chef

Re-Up, a developer of AI-powered convenience stores and gas stations, says it will be installing autonomous robotic chefs at a variety of locations powered by Nala Robotics, an AI technology company specializing in the culinary industry.

The Wingman by Nala Robotics is an autonomous fry station that can easily be added or configured to any restaurant or commercial food service operation.

Re-Up will leverage Nala Robotics’ advanced artificial intelligence technology to enhance its food service offerings, enabling customers to enjoy freshly prepared, fully customizable, fried chicken, french fries and other menu items on demand, quickly, easily and without human intervention. Flexiv Robotics and EsVata Shutters cut sanding times ‘by 80 percent’

Flexiv, a provider of general-purpose robotics solutions, says it enjoying a “successful collaboration” with EsVata, a manufacturer of window shutters, in ushering in a new era of sanding efficiency.

Deployed to EsVata’s California-based factory, Flexiv’s Rizon 4 adaptive robot has set new benchmarks for automated precision and efficiency in the previously labor-intensive material abrasion processes.

EsVata chose to integrate the Rizon 4 into their production line specifically to automate the time-consuming task of sanding window shutters.

CMU scientists contribute to NASA’s autonomous robot snake

Carnegie Mellon University researchers teamed up with scientists at NASA to develop a robot capable of searching underwater oceans on distant planets for signs of life. (See video below.)

NASA’s Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor (EELS) is a self-propelled, autonomous, snake-like robot inspired by a desire to one day look for signs of life in the vast ocean beneath the icy crust of Saturn’s Enceladus moon.

DoorDash and Wing launch drone delivery test in the US

DoorDash and Wing have launched their drone delivery partnership in the US, starting in Christiansburg, Virginia.

Select local consumers will be able to order eligible menu items from Wendy’s – the pilot’s first restaurant partner – through the DoorDash marketplace and have them delivered via drone.

This follows the drone delivery pilot program that DoorDash and Wing launched in Australia in 2022 and has since expanded to three locations in Queensland with over 60 participating merchants, marking the first time that Wing integrated its drone delivery service within another marketplace. European Union advocates for ‘responsible robotics development’

The European Union says it is aiming to support, develop, and benefit from advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve the lives of its citizens, businesses, and scientific communities, including the wider use of responsible robots.

However, the EU says that, for robots to be widely accepted in society, it’s “crucial to ensure they adhere to responsible robotics principles”.

ABB unveils mobile robot with Visual SLAM AI technology and AMR Studio Suite

ABB Robotics has unveils its first “Flexley Tug T702” autonomous mobile robot equipped with AI-based Visual SLAM navigation technology and the new AMR Studio software, enabling first-time robot users to easily program and operate entire fleets of mobile robots.

The new capabilities simplify configuration and can reduce commissioning time by up to 20 percent, paving the way for a workplace where intelligent robots operate autonomously, amid a critical shortage of skilled labor.

Marc Segura, president of ABB Robotics, says: “Following our acquisition of Sevensense in January, I’m pleased to offer our first AMR with AI-based Visual SLAM technology and AMR Studio software.
