Universal Robots launches UR+ Application Kits to simplify cobot deployments

March 10, 2020 by Sam Francis

The leader of collaborative robotics is expanding its UR+ platform of certified partner products with application kits that remove barriers to industrial automation for small, medium and large companies alike.

Twenty proven software and hardware kits for the most popular cobot applications are now available on the UR+ platform, the industry’s largest and most comprehensive ecosystem of products certified to integrate seamlessly with cobots from Universal Robots (UR).

By reducing recurring engineering decisions for common applications, the “Plug and Produce” kits decrease project risk and complexity and are ready for fast implementation for tasks such as finishing, inspection, assembly, machine tending, material removal, dispensing, and material handling.

Jim Lawton, VP of product and applications management at Universal Robots, says: “As the world’s leader in collaborative robots, Universal Robots is pleased to extend our award-winning UR+ ecosystem to include certified cobot applications. Kassow Robots begins production of two new 7-axis collaborative robots

March 10, 2020 by Sam Francis

Danish startup Kassow Robots has started production of two new collaborative robots which the company recently added to its product portfolio.

The two new cobots are the KR 1410 and the KR 1805.

Kassow says the KR 1805 has an 1.80-metre robot arm, which gives it an “unrivalled reach in the cobot market”, and opens up completely new applications for customers in industry.   [Read more…] about Kassow Robots begins production of two new 7-axis collaborative robots

Universal Robots debuts new cobot-powered fulfillment solutions at Modex 2020

March 9, 2020 by Sam Francis

Universal Robots, the market leader in collaborative robotics, will show attendees at North America’s largest supply chain expo how cobots can automate hard-to-staff palletizing and piece-picking tasks with new applications from partners MDCI Automation, RightHand Robotics, and Cross Automation.

With e-commerce generating the greatest year-over-year growth of all US retail industries, there is now more warehousing space being built in the US than projected warehousing jobs required to fill that space.

When thousands of supply chain professionals were asked in a recent Materials Handling Institute survey what technologies would yield the greatest boost to productivity, “robotics and automation” was their answer. ABB and Covariant partner to deploy integrated AI robotic solutions

February 25, 2020 by Sam Francis

ABB, one of the world’s leading supplier of industrial robots, and Silicon Valley AI start-up, Covariant, have formed a partnership to bring AI-enabled robotics solutions to market, starting with a fully autonomous warehouse order fulfilment solution.

ABB says the partnership brings together two companies with a shared vision for robotics enabled by AI, where intelligent robots work alongside humans in dynamic environments, “collectively learning and improving with every task completed”.

Given the accelerated global growth experienced in the e-commerce sector, ABB identified a significant opportunity for AI-enabled robotics solutions across a broad range of applications including logistics, warehousing, and parcels and mail sorting. Zymergen installs ‘dozens’ of miniature industrial robots from Mecademic

February 23, 2020 by David Edwards

Zymergen, a science and materials innovation company based in California, has integrated “dozens” of Meca500 robots to automate experiments in their life sciences facility. (See video below.)

The Meca500 is a miniature industrial robot manufactured by startup company Mecademic. It has found a great number of applications in labs and industries such as watchmaking and medical technology.

Some predict that Mecademic has huge potential with its robot, especially in wtachmaking and medtech, especially as there is currently no other robot like it. [Read more…] about Zymergen installs ‘dozens’ of miniature industrial robots from Mecademic

The first fast food robot in the world. Probably

February 11, 2020 by David Edwards

Kuka has unveiled what it describes as “the first fast food robot in the world”, adding the word “probably”.

First pioneered by Carlsberg, which used to call its beverage “probably the best lager in the world”, it’s the sort of waffle much favoured by journalists.

Kuka has “probably” noticed that there have been stories about robots being used in fast food operations as well as bars, so it “probably” decided that it’s best not to be too emphatic about its sort of half-claim to be the first. [Read more…] about The first fast food robot in the world. Probably
